❛ I think this Easter will be better than my last. ❜ (for Hulk from green-army-soldier)
@green-army-soldier
“How did you celebrate your last Easters?” Banner never got to run around, looking for eggs. The most their mother could do what hide a little piece of chocolate and pass it along to Bruce. It had always been melted but he hadn’t cared. Nothing mattered if Mama was there with them…
Shaking his head, Hulk got back to the conversation and smiled. “Well, we don’t actually do much at Easter, mostly keep an eye on things so that the kids are safe….Not after the last Easter incidents….” Another frown appeared on his face at that. “We can’t have another incident. My heart can’t take it again.”
Hm…
“That could work..” Rikki pursed her lips, pointed ears doing a small twitch as she rolled the idea over mentally. “I’ll have to discuss it with the others, see if eveyone likes the idea of it and whether we can achieve it so soon, but it’s a good idea!”
Gently, she playfully slapped Benny’s arm with a small grin, “Careful there, I might think you have a place on the event committee if you keep ideas like those up.”
And who knew? Maybe Benny really would find himself helping out more. God knew they could use the extra hands at times.
"Alright, I wasn't sure if you'd be takin' suggestions, but figured I'd ask anyway." He froze for a moment at the slap before chuckling. "I don't know about that. I'm usually better at followin' orders than planning. Don't mean I can't plan or nothin', but you get what I mean." He felt awkward, but the internal chastising couldn't keep his spirit of celebration down. Though he knew it would be best to return to Hulk and figure out what to do next before idle thoughts started weighing on him.
💚 - Hulk (for green-army-soldier)
@green-army-soldier
He could sense gamma out here and this time, it wasn’t coming from his family.
Time had passed for them all, it had been months since enemies became allies and even longer since the days of sharing the body with the many personalities of Banner as well as being on the run from the army. New hulks had been appearing for years so it had become easy to forget old ones. To forget old faces.
Except now certain faces had seemingly made an appearance again. Hulk had been following the sense of the radiation for about an hour now, trying to keep track of it and not realising that he had wandered far enough from the base that it would take some time for anyone to reach him. But that wasn’t really on Hulk’s mind at the moment, he was more concerned with whoever may have been out in the desert all alone and what might have turned them into a gamma mutate. Were they completely alone? Did tbeh have people waiting and scared for them? He needed to find out, so he could prevent any pain (and maybe Hulk had fully accepted the fact that he was a bleeding heart).
And so far? He hadn’t found them. Whoever this new gamma mutant was, they knew how to cover their tracks. Hm…
“You know,” Hulk sighed loudly, hoping that the mystery gamma mutate could possibly hear him and maybe not be so afraid to hide. “I can’t exactly help you if you stay hidden!” And he thought Rick was bad with the disappearing act…
He seemed…nervous? Jen guessed that it was to be expected, especially when there were so many people Benny didn’t know.
With that in mind, she eased back on the poor guy, smiling gently. “Don’t worry about it, okay? Gamma is…tough to deal with, not everyone takes to it well and that can often cause incidents.”
After all, just look at her cousin, Red, Emil and Sam. All of them had caused chaos over the time they first got the gamma and yet, all of them had eventually been able to find their place here. Maybe Benny would even find the same thing?
“It’s…tough, I won’t lie, but no one is gonna hold it against you.” And Jen meant every word of it to the other gamma mutate, “Alright? Vista Verde is all about giving people new chances.”
Benny did his best to suck up his anxious feelings, though it still showed as he sighed. "Yeah, it ain't easy. Gets hard to think straight when you're ornery and being told you gotta fight for your coubtry, your life and your family..." He paused. "I think I need that... new chance and all that." The name of the area struck him funny suddenly. He chuckled. "Ain't much green around here seems like. Assides some of us folks." He gestured towards several of the other hulks present.
" Kid.....I don't know what I am anymore. I was a wartime general....a wartime president....now....I'm nothing."
(* pushes MCU Ross at MCU Benny!*)
Benny sat in silence for a bit, taking in just how broken the former president now was. He finally spoke up, his voice quieter than Ross had been. "With all due respect, Sir, neither do I. I was a recruit and now I'm here. All cause I tried to defend my bootcamp from a monster. And then they called me a monster... I didn't used to believe in monsters... just bad folks trying to hurt other folks. But now, well, I ain't so sure."

Ah, Jen could remember this one a little better now. He’d seemed familiar at first, but it dawned on her that this one had at least met her before…at least, under worse circumstances. Was he being given another chance like the other villains Hulk had redeemed in the past?
She put on a friendly smile regardless, the charming one that all the paparazzi just adored. Of course, one could argue that all of Jen’s smiles were charming, but who was she to brag? “Hey! I’m Jennifer Walters, She-Hulk. But eveyone just calls me Jen.”
As she spoke, Jen held out a hand for Benny to shake. So far, she’d tried to keep herself open and friendly, anyone could smell the nerves on this guy and she didn’t wanna make it any worse than it was.
“So you been here long? Or has Hulk dragged you to live in Vista Verde for the foreseeable future too?” Jen snorted, spending her cousin a wry side glance that only amused and confirmed her suspicion when Hulk avoided her glance.
Benny was totally doomed to live here now.
"Oh... heh. Good... good to meet ya." he took her hand, carefully shaking it. He had grown so used to being careful in his new body that he treated the world as if it were glass. Especially living things. He wasn't sure how much his nervousness showed, even if the sweat on his palms would leave little doubt. Still, he did his best to keep up a brave face. This was no battlefield after all and he had seen much worse. Jen's question snapped him out of his thoughts, letting go of her hand as his mind raced, trying to explain.
"Oh, well, I've only been here a little while. I figured that I needed some help... so I just sorta followed where the gamma was strongest. Figure I'd find ya'll eventually... but, uh... I'm awful sorry for the way I acted when ya'll first met me. The general givin' me orders was lyin' and he had my momma... I know know it don't excuse me attackin', but I'm real sorry all the same." He hung his head in shame.

My heart can’t take it again.”
“Next is the eggs placement, though Leader Subtypes are banned from that activity.” Rikki couldn’t stop herself from pouting slightly as she said this, “Apparently we make them "too hard to find”, though personally I believe no one else is merely searching hard enough.“
Aside from that little disagreement, the green-skinned woman looked up at Benny and gave a small smile, pointed ears flapping away happily at a job well done.
"Thank you for your aid, it certainly cut the work down quicker! I don’t have much else left for you now, so you can most likely find Hulk and alert him of our finished tasks.” He was probably waiting for the Easter celebrations to begin anyway, though Rikki hadn’t spotted him around lately…
"Leader Subtypes? Well, maybe we could make two egg hunts: one for the youngins and one for the older folks who want more challenge. That way you could use both, I figure." He smiled, hoping that his suggestion would at least be considered. He was starting to feel a bit more relaxed and getting into the spirit of the holiday.
At least until he heard the woman praise him and tell him the job was done. He rubbed the back of his neck. "Oh, well, shucks. It t'wern't nothin', but uh... yeah, I'll go back and tell 'em that we're ready, at least for the most part!" He stumbled over his words and knew if was time to say his goodbyes for the moment. "Alright, I guess I'll see ya later then." He waved before heading off in search of Hulk.
(* pushes grandpa Red at Flux for a mission xD*) "Alright... I appreciate that, Sir. I don't know why I'm so worried. I just got a bad feel
@green-army-soldier
" Heh, maybe. But half the things I've seen since I got turned makes whatever Hollywood thinks up look like shit."
The mission had started out with a finding in Europe at the Strait of Messina. What looked like an ancient crypt was found deep beneath the waves....a crypt wrapped in chains with ancient Greek carved unto the stone.
Energy signatures that read too much like gamma radiation to be just a byproduct of volcanic activity in the region.
The crypt was brought into the US, but things didn't seem right. The reports from the base holding the artifact made it seem like the whole thing was....alive.
Red had a lot of experience with this kind of stuff, so he volunteered to go with Flux to investigate this thing. Two hulks were better odds than one.
Still....even he felt something wasn't right. He held out a hand to stop Flux, motioning forward with his head.
" Up ahead. Can you feel it?"
It was a pulse....an extremely powerful gamma pulse. He could taste it thanks to his absorption ability and it was like feeling Hulk's gamma.
But.....it was coming from inside a huge stone crypt.
Benny laughed again before his demeanor grew more serious as they approached the crypt. He too could feel the the invisible pulse... gamma, there was no mistaking it. It had been what he felt in the days after the bomb that had been dropped near his unit.
"Uh-huh. There's some kinda gamma... ain't sure what it is, but that's what's in there. Didn't think ancient folks knew how to harness that..." He paused, thinking about what possible approach they might use. "Thinking we go slow? Maybe if it's too much you can absorb some of that gamma if there's some kinda radioactive artifact. Like those old plates my mama had. The bright green ones... though I think I read they ain't nearly as dangerous." He focused ahead, realizing he'd need to transform soon. "I'll follow your lead, Sir."
" They probably had a different name for it. Like Greek Fire. People always thought shit like this was the work of a pantheon or something."
Still.....gamma? Radiating out of Sicily? Was that entire island populated by hulks?
The idea of millions of rampaging hulks trapped on an island a sneeze away from mainland Europe or Africa made Ross' skin crawl...
" You're talking about uranium. I can but only as a last result. If I push my absorption too much I'll get stuck as a Hulk for weeks. "
The stone slab was hulking and it gave Red the fucking creeps.
" How the fuck did anything survive in this down there...."
"True. Folks back then knew stuff was powerful, no matter where it came from." He paused, nodding at Red's explanation of his power's limitations. "Well, let's hope things ain't gonna get that bad." He looked to the slab. "Dunno. Why do cockroaches and scorpions survive radiation? Maybe we can contact Dr. Banner later and find out when we're outta here with whatever this thing is."
" True that. Lots o' new recruits used to talk shit like the Romans were stupid because they didn't have computers. But they weren't. They had to fight with less shit than we did. Put a gladiator in New York and he's the same as a professional boxer. "
Red really fucking hated bringing in Banner, but the guy was the best at this stuff. Ross could handle the military stuff but the nerd shit was greenie's specialty.
" He should be at the base with Annie. He wanted to take a closer look at the gamma readings. "
He walked around the sarcophagus, flicking the heavy chains. It wasn't adamantium so he could easily break them. But those markings....
" Is it just me or is this shit....Greek?"
Ancient Greek carved into stone. Images of storms along the writing. An image of a giant among the stones. Just what the fuck happened centuries ago....
Red placed a hand on the stone, his eyes glowing as he concentrated. Letting the power flow through him....to see what was in there...
Suddenly, he jerked his hand back, looking startled.
" That fucking thing just zapped me!"
His fingers were momentarily numb, an extreme thing to do to a Hulk. It was like he was....scanned....or something....
"Yeah, i guess you're right. Speakin' of boxing, you wanna watch a match when we get back to base? Ain't sure if your lady friend is into contact sports and I know the Doc ain't..."
His casual tone drifted away as he turned his focus to the carvings. "I guess so. I know Spanish and a little of Arabic... but any Greek's all Greek to me." he looked over the stone images. "I do know some basic Greek myths... maybe this some lost temple of Zeus? It's explain the storms."
Whatever anthropological wonderings he was entertaining soon turned to concern for his commanding officer. His anxiousness providing the final push to get him to transform.
"You okay, Sir? It ain't like you to get hurt that easy." He looked at the stone. "Folks back then wouldn't need somethin' strong enough to hurt a Hulk to keep thieves out. Unless... There's gamma here, so maybe there was some kinda advanced society? Like Atlantis?" So many questions and it seemed finding them would prove a least a little dangerous.
(* pushes grandpa Red at Flux for a mission xD*) "Alright... I appreciate that, Sir. I don't know why I'm so worried. I just got a bad feel

@green-army-soldier said : what if i don't have time? (Benny having his mid-life crisis a decade early XD, green-army-soldier)
Now was an opportune time to explain to Benny gamma mutants have more lives than a room full of cats, but he chooses not to take it, kid was clearly freaked out enough without talk of green doors and the like.
❝ I'm going to need you to sit down and take a deep breath. Just try to focus on the here and now, take things minute by minute. Can't do much about things that haven't happened yet, but you can control your present, revel in that ❞
BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY / Accepting!
Benny sat down, trying to take deep breaths as his whole body shaking. He gulped air, trying to speak.
"I... oh. Okay." He paused. "I'm sittin' here. That's where I am right now: sittin'." He went quiet again until a nervous chuckle forced its way out. "I guess sittin' ain't so bad. I've been used to doing somethin' when I ain't sleeping. No time for sittin' when there's farm chores that need doin' and missions to execute... No time for sittin'."
