”AND YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN!”
Alexei’s voice roared above Flynn’s, octave rising, staring down the boy who stood on the other end of the sword. Holding it’s hilt as red eyes narrowed horribly. Staring, staring at the boy. “You are being over-emotional at this interval, you are unfit to work until you have control over your emotion to understand what you are putting in danger by following after me!”
With that, he jerked the sword backwards to pull Flynn forward, nose to touch his, knelt down enough so that he could get on equal seeing level between the two of them. “Did you think about the other members of your guard who could be injured right now, with the gates closed provides you extra time, but you need archers up on those gates to pick them off; however you also have injured, the knights who could use a bow would be at a disadvantage due to the fact the ones who could dual wield both a bow and a sword would have been in the thrum of fighting; you’ve lost too many men to hold Zaphias.”
There was a sneer, “And do you know what that means? You should; I picked you to promote for a reason and it wasn’t because you’re easily manipulated when you think it’s for the good of everyone." Red eyes danced up and down his form before a low growl escaped his throat.
”Go, heal your men. Calm down and don’t tell me what I dare because you’ve no control over me or my thoughts when I turned and helped save your city when I knew this would be the welcome I would receive." Alexei shifted, shoulder moving to shove into Flynn’s chest, hand letting go enough of the sword so it would slip, cutting through the cloth on his glove and push the boy back.
He lifted himself, straightening himself, twisting his hand backwards to check the bleeding carefully. “Unless of course, you think my life is going to be more important than the few you have left." He glanced to the side, "For a man who claims to be my successor, you’re not thinking too far into the future, are you? Sure, you have the work and you can handle that fine. Put in the tougher problems in mix? No. So do yourself a favor and deal with the things you can face. Not the people you find morally unappealing."
Alexei clucked his tongue, shook his head. Flynn Scifo wouldn’t be his equal in the knights for years. Gaining trust was easy, yes, gaining loyalty was easy, yes, but gaining experience was difficult. And this man who had so much difficulty with his emotions. “Now leave. Unless you plan to ask me help defend your gates, I’m not going to your prison where I’ll be left to rot for the rest of my life with a council who supports you only to try and manipulate you later."
But he would defend the gates. He would help defend Zaphias. It wouldn’t matter if he was given a sword or a bow. Put in the front line or last. He’d be just as successful and would put them all to shame. He’d kill them, every last one of them that tried to hurt his men. Even if they didn’t consider themselves that anymore. They had always been his and he’d be damned if he let them die. “Came to a decision yet?”
