GW Pharmaceuticals Closes U.S. Public Offering; Cannabis-Based Medicines Progress
(Forbes) Yesterday, Salisbury, UK-based GW Pharmaceuticals plc announced the closing of its public offering of 1.7 million American Depositary Shares on the NASDAQ Global Market. When taken together with the full exercise of options for another 255,000 ADSs by the underwriters at $86.83/ADS, the offering totaled $169.8 million.
âŚThe funds come at a time when its flagship product, SativexÂŽ, garnered a FDA Fast Track designationâafter its approval in several other countries as early as 2005âand its EpidiolexÂŽ cannabidiol (CBD) formulation received orphan drug designation for severe, intractable epilepsy syndromes in infants and young children.
âŚWhile this cult industry around CBD has grown, the FDA granted orphan drug status to Epidiolex to facilitate its development. Based on 1983 legislation to encourage drug development for rare diseases, the designation is for drugs whose target population is less than 200,000 in the United States and where the company is unlikely to recoup the costs of development. In return, a 50% tax credit for costs incurred during clinical trials and is granted a seven-year period of market exclusivity that begins when the drug is approved, regardless of when the drug was patented.

Neuroscience Key To Marketing Success
Understanding how the brain responds to marketing is key to successful product design and advertising campaigns. Applying neuroscience to marketing is now a field called neuromarketing.Â
After earning a PhD in Neuroscience studying the role of new brain cells in addiction, many thought my move into marketing was a waste of talent and knowledge. Turns out brands want consumers to get addicted to their products, whether its a smartphone or an advertising campaign using a Facebook app game.Â
Neuroscience is also important for determining what product features or advertising messages influence men and women differently. Want to make a customer literally "hungry" for your product? Color psychology is key to designing your logo, product packaging and website.
Don't waste precious advertising dollars on a campaign consumers won't even notice. Market smarter, not harder. If you want that competitive edge, hire GreenStone Labs and neuromarketing expert Dr. Michele Ross.
