Ed, played by Stephen Mangan hits the air and gas as he waits in hospital to give birth during a synthetic labour.  

Scarily real, luckily I had overcame a fear of pregnancy and birth some years back, or from my Top Circle Row view, the stalls below would have got it.

Throughout, Lisa (Lisa Dillon) his bread-winning wife looks onto the very real labour and tackles unstable emotions thrown up from it.  I loved how they both get increasingly bewildered by a tough love Nigerian nurse in a brilliant portrayal by Llewella Gideon.

A tight production, with a cast of just four commanding a believable twist on the natural phenomenon of birth and a couple’s relationship battles with it…. gives another dark humour turn on reality plot from Joe Penhall - screenwriter of The Road.  Like.
