Sometimes nature just looks like a painting. I love visiting museums and taking in the art and paintings. I'm always drawn to two particular types of paintings: landscapes (shocker) and intense use of light. I'm a sucker for light. Coming across this path, I was lucky enough to pretend to be the painter for a moment. https://www.instagram.com/p/By5zd3UA5Ua/?igshid=ck1zh6o66c27
A little late season snowfall dusted the valley over Memorial Day weekend. Made for some nice winter views behind the spring trees. (at Yosemite National Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bys3zaqgyx5/?igshid=7ytnvza1h8i6
We ventured up the Upper Yosemite Falls trail during our weekend in Yosemite. It was my first time experiencing that hike. It's a trail that certainly makes you earn the views (just ask my knees) but the payoff is worth the effort. For those that don't feel like making that trek, you can still get views like this one by just going about half way up 😉 but I recommend pushing through and making that summit! Photography gives me the motivation to force myself out of a warm bed and into a cold car for a long, dark drive. It's all for views like this. This world is blessed enough to know that there are many mornings that look like this in the valley, but this one was ours. (@lmford6 was a trooper and made this trek with me and patiently sat in a bundle of blankets while I captured my shots. I think it's safe to say she agrees it was worth it.) How lucky we are to live in a world that looks like this. (at Yosemite National Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bya1bIYgDX8/?igshid=13cuvgo81d4vm
I'd like to introduce all of you to my dear deer friend, Buck. Spending Memorial weekend in Yosemite, it was important to get to the valley early to beat the crowds and enjoy some peaceful, quite time with nature. Getting there at sunrise on 2 days, I ran into this guy both times at around the same area. The second time he was far more distant when I spotted him, but after I finished catching my shots for the morning, I was surprised to find that he had quickly worked his way over to me and was standing and staring from about 10 feet away. Maybe he recognized me too (or was just looking for a snack). (at Yosemite Falls) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByYeCtwgW20/?igshid=t7evpkagyvb5
A moody Yosemite morning. I love getting to the valley floor when the sun is just starting to crack the valley walls and the light catches in ways you can't find any other time. There was an eerie peacefulness to this particular morning. (at Yosemite National Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByTJrh4gc2O/?igshid=2ji7ab63l38f
Sometimes it's crucial to find a quiet place to settle and reset your mind. Grab your own little piece of peace. 😉 (at Nusa Penida Island) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqQPvlLAqCB/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=17k8nrssnerc5
This waterfall may not seem that big until you realize that the pixels in the water at the bottom are people... (at Sudaji, Bali, Indonesia) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqLFausggYj/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=q28i5vl24euc
Sekumpul Waterfall is a sight that really gives you perspective on how powerful nature is compared to us. Water drops from over 250 feet above your head, crashing into a beautiful, swimmable (and chilly!) pool below. @lmford6 likes climbing tree. I like taking pictures. It makes for a good combination. (at Klingking Beach) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpsGQDzHE2H/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=lbms5kezogjj
A view worth hiking at 3am for. Mount Agung and Danau Batur, as seen from the top of Mount Batur. (at Mount Batur) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpm7YBUgW6w/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1wcs9gm0gvbui
Mount Batur is a 5,600 ft, active volcano, with its last eruption taking place in 2000 (though the island had a bit of a false alarm a couple years ago). We did a sunrise hike to the peak, starting at about 3 am. When we reached the top we stopped for breakfast with the sunrise, completely unaware that a population of macaques (like the one seen in the bottom right of the first photo and in the second photo) apparently reside in the area. Like many monkeys, the macaques are smart enough to know what containers carried food and they were ready for breakfast too! After relunctantly sacrificing some food to our new friends, we all watched the sun rise- humans and monkeys alike. As a constantly drought-conscious Californian, it was incredible to witness the endless waters of Bali. Flowing from rivers, walls, streams, cliffs, bushes, just about any place you can imagine. It's a nice reminder of of how nature always finds a way to run free. (at Bali, Indonesia) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpP0OMDn2PC/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=136gvgfij5z90
