“I know. I feel super fortunate. I still can hardly believe he’s alive.” Brooke admitted, leaning against him. “They have to be able to figure out more about what happened now that people are returning, right?” she asked, knowing he wouldn’t have a real answer but wanting to hear his opinion anyway.

“You would think so.” Greg nodded, looking over at her. “I mean, it should give them something more to go on. More than before anyway.” He turned towards her, leaning down to kiss her as he put a drink in her hand. “I know it’s going to be an adjustment with everything but I want you to know that I’m here for you both.” He assured her.

“Yes, please.” Brooke agreed, leaning against the counter. The last couple of days had been a whirlwind of emotions. She was thrilled that Matthew was back, but it was a lot to process since she had really thought he was dead. 

“This is all so…crazy.” she admitted, running a hand through her hair.

Greg poured them a couple of drinks, walking over to hands hers to her. “I know.” He nodded, wrapping one arm around her back. “But it’s good. You’re lucky. Not everyone made it back.” He reminded her.

Greg was in the kitchen when Brooke reappeared. He forced a smile, having just spent the evening getting to meet her teenage son. Greg knew it made him a bad person but he had preferred it when Matthew was nothing more than a sad couple of chapters in his girlfriend’s history. 

“You want a drink?” He asked hopefully, getting a couple of glasses down from the cabinet.

“You always have an incredible talent for vagueness.”

“It’s just better to run business on a need-to-know basis.”

“You’re probably right. Google doesn’t reveal everything though, I’m not even completely sure what all you do.”

“Yes you do. We run imports. Sometimes things slip through the cracks. It’s hard to run a clean business that operates internationally.”

“Mom and him connected on the whole family after marriage thing.”

“It’s not like you don’t plan on getting married. Regardless, it’s your decision.”

“I’m sure Brooke has already Googled my name at this point. She’s not overly trusting.”

“He’s not entirely supportive of this whole pregnancy and everything. I can’t expect him to find this more important than work.”

‘No, I do. I’ve been a workaholic my entire life. Some things are just more important though.”

“I’m sure you get how work can be more important sometimes.”
