Letās see you little punks smash my letterbox now
This reminds me of this guy who used to live on my dadās street. Ā
Every time it snowed, the snow plow would take out his mailbox - and only his mail box. Ā And just to be clear - it was done intentionally. Ā No one knows why, but the driver of the snow plow would target his box and mow it down. Ā Heād call the DOT to complain, and would get an earful of excuses that amounted to ānot our fault you have a wimpy mailbox.ā Ā
Fast forward to the next winter. Ā First decent snow starts falling, and every kid is hoping for a snow day. Ā It was right around 4:30 am that the whole neighborhood was woken up to this loud CLANG and the screech of tearing metal. Ā My dad made it to the window first and started laughing his ass off.
Sitting out side was one very totaled, and almost ripped in half, snow plow. Ā And these werenāt little pick-up trucks with a blade on the front, we have these up in NY:
Well, turns out over the summer, my dadās neighbor got himself a backhoe and sank a steel I beam into the ground in his front yard. Ā Then he covered it with a decorative wood sleeve and topped it with a brand new mailbox. Ā When the snowplow driver tried to mow it down it was a bad case of immovable object meets unstoppable force - and the mailbox won. Ā With the plow firmly impaled on the I beam, it was very clear that the driver had gone out of his way to hit it. Ā
Naturally, the DOT wasnāt happy, and the neighborās reply was simple: āNot my faulty you have a wimpy snowplow.ā Ā They did try to sue him for the damages, but as he had gone to the town, gotten approval for the post and its installation, and made sure everything was up to code, it was thrown out pretty quick. Ā
And for anyone wondering about the driver⦠ He was fine.  His job and tighty-whiteys ⦠not so much.

An Argument In Favor of Video Games From a Quarantined Mother #Quaranteens #WTFparenting My 15 yo son has spent every second of his free time during this pandemic hanging out online, playing video games with his friends. He started by ranking up to the elite tiers of Apex Legends. I am told this is quite a feat. Honestly, I believe it because it took him and his friend 6 hours a day for a week to rank that high. After that came Sea of Thieves. He joined up with more friends and sailed the digital oceans until piracy lost itās shine. Also, when two friends started arguing in game. 2 nights ago they made a plan to meet up as a big group on Fortnight. None of them really play Fortnight much anymore because the crowd is a little younger. But they didnāt want to work too hard at playing, they just wanted to hang out. Last night, six of them met up again on Fortnight to hang out and play. They were goofing off, doing stupid teenager stuff, when they met a solo player named JamMaster. Sometimes if they meet solo players that are pretty chill, theyāll join forces. JamMaster seemed pretty young but he was by himself and they were having fun showing him what they knew about the game. They invited him to join their crew. Pretty soon they discovered that their first impressions were correct. JamMaster WAS much younger than they were - only 10 years old. They also discovered that it was his birthday in the morning. The boys realized that JamMaster had been hanging out by himself all night, on the eve of his 1 Ith birthday- which he would be spending by himself in quarantine. CLEARLY SOMETHING HAD TO BE DONE. Y'ALL, THEY THREW HIM AN 11TH BIRTHDAY PARTY They took him on a bunch of adventures, gave him all the loot they could, helped him win a few battles, and made his stay up until midnight so they could all sing happy birthday to him. This morning, as my son told me about their adventures and all the fun they had, I started to cry. I was trying to say something like āOh thatās so niceā but tears just started spilling down my cheeks. He could not understand why. Butā¦but⦠CAN YOU IMAGINE? The disappointment of being quarantined for your 1 Ith birthday only to be met by a random six-pack of teenage gamers who decide youāre awesome and want to throw you a birthday party? What a roller coaster. What an experience. What an incredible thing to do for a young gamer. In conclusion: video games, hell yeah.

I think this woman is also a quality mom, because how many moms listen enough to what their kid is interested in to know what game theyāre playing and how much time theyāve invested, and to listen to them talk about their game enough to hear a story like this? maybe itās more common than i expect but this is the kind of engagement with my interests i craved as a kid

Reblogged last year, hoping it comes this year
this is actually true! there have been multiple studies that show that millennials are better at identifying fraudulent links than other generations, and one theory is that rickrolling taught us to be cautious about what links we click!

āITāS A SWORD, ITāS NOT MEANT TO BE SAFE.ā My favourite scene from The Hogfather. ___ See how this comic was made here.
an obviously stolen copy of this crossed my dash last week, and i wanted to reblog the real thing. tracking down an image that originates in social media is a bit of hassle, but i am the citation fairy (sort of), and this is her quest. and she had to do whatever it took on this one. that only turned out to be less than 10 minutes, but she was prepared to put in a few hours. the hogfather lit the spark of her creation, and this is his night.
Thank you, citation fairy!
A few of the more creative spellings of Christmas Iāve come across while looking for Dear Santa letters in old newspapers this year.
