“More times than I can count.” He can’t help the small actual chuckle at her response.  There was one from the good life at least, he honestly hoped she never got to the situation he’d ended up in.  Then again, she probably didn’t have a criminal record and a death certificate.  He could go by a fake name, but he wasn’t sure he had any updated ids to pass, let alone with this digital world making it a little more difficult.  “Good.  I’ve got painkillers in the drawer next to the tv- go for the white bottle, not the orange.”  Grabbing a bottle of the closest alcohol, he took a quick swig, placing a needle in some water to boil over the small stove in the kitchenette.  “You haven’t been around many rough types, have you, kid?” 

“Why not the orange?” Not that it mattered that much, it didn’t stop her from grabbing the right bottle, she just welcomed the opportunity to shift the conversation because the current one was doing nothing to help calm her. 

“I guess not.” Maybe her curiosity would be less destructive and dangerous if she had, not that it felt fair for her to blame her lack of risk assessment skills on her mothers’ sheltering. “Is this you giving me an intro course to the behavior of those types?” she joked. “My mom didn’t put you up to this to scare me away from the big cruel world, did she?” Not very likely, not when she was the one annoying him into working with her in the first place.
