The Eyes of a Fierce Protector
Armor glistening in the sun
Helmet adorning sun-kissed skin
A shadowed gaze
Locked on your face
He rests his spear and shield
Against a nearby tree.
With a calloused hand
He gestures for you
To take a seat beside him
On the warm grass below
Without a moment of hesitation
You obey and sit.
“I have fought many battles,
Won many wars,
And lost many soldiers.
The war in your mind
Is fierce and gruesome.
There is so much carnage.
“I know it pains you,
When you wake each morning
And when you finally succumb to sleep.
I know it tears you up,
Cutting all the threads
That you worked so hard to sew together.
"My warrior,
You are never alone.
This weight you are carrying
Is far too heavy for a mortal.
Allow me to remove the burden
That crushes your shoulders.”
He removes his helmet
And sets it beside him
He turns his face to you
Revealing the eyes
Of both a fierce warrior
And a loving father.
“This war that consumes you,
It can and will be won.
Just say the word, my child,
And I shall arm myself,
Call forth my best warriors,
And we shall fight together.
"I am always here for you.
Day or night,
No matter the battle,
Be it a skirmish or a war,
Be it mental or physical,
Together, we will always win.”
