This is an old bed sheet I've been keeping around because it's so purdy to look at.
Its such a genius idea to recycle vintage clothing back into yarn! Very impressed
Thanks. A lot of these sweaters are pretty new though. The modern consumer has less respect for clothing than previous generations. They consume/discard at a higher rate and for the wrong reasons. Recycling (and sharing that process) reminds people that these things do in fact have tremendous value.
What do you do with your recycled yarn?
Everything I knit and weave is made with recycled yarn. I also use it to mend and sew.
100% Cashmere two ply lace weight recycled from an Old Navy men’s sweater.
Repairs continue today on my #batik quilt top. This piece dates back to all the other batik and ikat textiles I have (late eighties). The repairs are focused on segments of fabric that have frayed themselves out from under the stitches. There are a lot of them to seal up before I can attach this to anything.
It's time for more of this mid-gray 100% wool recycled from a J Crew sweater. #knitters #knittersofinstagram #recycledyarn #yarnstash
This Balinese ikat jacket was pretty thrashed, so I salvaged that beautiful, hand loomed fabric. This is one of three, the first you can see here.
I've used this yarn once in 2013. I think it's time to bring it back. Recycled and spilt down from a four-stranded structure yarn, it was recycled from a Hollister sweater. #recycledyarn #knitters #yarnstash
This is a 100% wool two ply fingering weight yarn recycled from a Deane White men’s sweater. The recycling process for this was featured in Taproot Magazine (Issue 13: Song).
Here's an image demonstrating the size of this #batik scarf. It's about 20in (50cm) by 108in (274cm). I think I'll just call this done because I have too much other stuff to do. I'll have a blogpost up about it next week. #recycledfabric #recycledyarn #handsewing #slowstitches #slowfashionoctober
These are the scraps left over from the #batik #patchwork scarf I've been working on. Just looking them over before packing it all into my fabric stash.
I'm finishing up this #recycleddenim drawstring bag today. I'll have a blogpost up about it soon. #handsewing #recycledfabric #recycledyarn
