Phoebe has never been an innocent person. In fact, Phoebe was an party girl for a while - as much as she says that she wishes it never happened. However, somewhere in the back of her mind, she enjoyed this status and the lifestyle with it. But now, Phoebe is a workaholic rather than an alcoholic. She is determined and focused on whatever she wishes to do and will most likely succeed in doing so. The young woman can be rather distant at times and disappear completely into herself when it does come to being out of work and may even avoid subjects if she feels like it. One of the problems with Phoebe is her trust issues. She struggles to trust people who enter her life and ultimately, thatâs what makes them leave. It isnât that she doesnât want to trust them, she just canât in case they leave her - believing that they always leave. Phoebe can also be very harsh when she wants to be. This could be by bring brutally honest or just to make someone go away if they annoy her. But one thing that people notice is that Phoebe never lets her emotions get the better of her. They never get in her way of what she wants to do. If someone close to her died, she would be in work the next day like nothing happened.
Phoebe was raised by her parents with her older brother, Damien. But her parents were never the kind to realize that everyone is different and so believed that Phoebe should be like her older brother - successful, charismatic and proper. Phoebe hated the way her brotherâs good deeds put pressure on her and never cared much for him. In act, she blamed him more than anything. She blamed him for everyone her parents believed her for. He was looking for a career in law which meant a ton of excellent grades and extra studying on top of that and Phoebe wasnât like that. She did enough to get good grades but they were never as good as Damienâs grades and the fact that he would rub it in her face made it all the worse for her. So in her high school years, she began to go to parties with older people - college parties. More and more, she began to rebel against her parents to the point where she was out all the time. It accelerated quickly into a downhill spiral. The odd weekend turned into every weekend which turned into every night. This rebellious behaviour continued until she began to notice how she would wake up with a different boy in her bed every morning with a banging headache all the time. She began to hate herself and everything about herself.
That was until she met, Beau. Beau Metcalfe was her boyfriend. He made her feel alive when she felt so dead. He was the one who convinced her to change her life. Phoebe confessed everything about her brother being the success of the family while she was the failure and spilled her guts to him. He got her to go to nursing school and be what she really wanted to be. He even tried to get her to have some respect for herself. Despite her self-hatred, she worked hard in nursing school and instead of partying like the rest of them did on the night, she spent her nights working. It wasnât the most social she had ever been but it was worth it to come out of there as a qualified nurse. However, her biggest success out of all of this was to stop being an alcoholic. She pushed herself to come off the drink completely and kept herself away from it. As tempting as it was to have one drink, she knew how one drink could be a slippery slope down to her rock bottom for a second time. She didnât need that in her life right now. Not when she was getting on track. The worst thing was that she lost contact with Neil during her school years. She did miss him for a while but got over it and accepted that people grow apart.
When she went back to her parents with her degree saying how she was now able to be a nurse, they continued to pressure her to be more like her brother and constantly reminded her of her rebellious ways. They were the main reason for her temptation to drink. Phoebe felt like she couldnât win with these people so she moved away. She moved to the small town of Mystic Falls when they accepted her job application and offered her the job. She mainly works in the ICU unit with the emergency people with her calm patience with the patients. Phoebe is incredibly focused on her work. Unlike most people in Mystic Falls, Phoebe will never be found in the Grill out of fear that she will fall for her own demons - alcoholism. With the amount of alcohol consumed in the small town, there was no need for her to be around the stuff. Due to the past, Phoebe always wants to make people proud and enjoys receiving credit for her work to try and fill the void her parentâs left her with. But with all of this focus, Phoebe has become somewhat robotic towards people and not so much emotional. It takes a lot to make her upset nowadays and as much as she is aware of it, she canât change it without everything coming loose.
He is her brother and she hates him. She hates how he patronizes her for the good she does and sees him as a constant reminder of her party girl days and being told off for it.
She does like the girl and finds her interesting. However, she is aware of how much she drinks and cannot condone this behaviour or else she may relapse.
Ex-boyfriend from her party girl days. They broke up and became friends and he was the one who got her back on to the right track. Lost contact with him, however.
