Fangirl Challenge: [11/50] Scenes » Stefan and Caroline (The Vampire Diaries)
Would you ever consider making this an indie blog?
I’ve thought about it, but I think that having done indie before, I’m going to keep it just as a continuation of the old rp stuff because my life is a lot busier, I’ve moved to a new city, and committing/plotting/threading with everyone would be difficult, and I feel odd about making it a selective indie blog.
“thank you.” she pulled away, looking up at him with a lopsided smile. “and i’m sorry i didn’t tell you how i was feeling straight away.” she smoothed out the shoulders of his shirt and took a deep breath. “you’ve just been through so much and i didn’t want you to feel like you had to protect me. i wanted to be the one to protect you..”
He didn’t want her to feel like it was all on her to protect him, but he got the sentiment. When anything horrible happened to her, he ended up feeling the exact same way. “I know,” he nodded, giving her a soft, wistful smile. “We’ll protect each other. The best we can, okay? That’s the best we can do.” He was being pragmatic about this, or he was trying.
caroline took a deep breath and nodded slightly, stepping forward and wrapping her arms around stefans waist, burying her face in his shoulder. after almost losing him to the augustine, she was terrified that next time he wouldn’t come back. she was scared every time he left the house, and every time she left the house. it was no way to leave. “i love you.” she murmured, closing her eyes.
“I love you, too,” he told her, almost immediately, because it was true, and it was the one thing in this conversation that he didn’t have to think about at all. That was the only thing that he did seem to know. He pressed his lips together before then exhaling, “We’ll figure something out, okay? I’m going to talk to Damon. We’ll figure out a way to protect ourselves better.”
“i thought we’d be safer as humans.. that we would be stuck in this town forever if we didn’t do it.” but it seemed that ever since they had taken the cure, more terrible things had happened to them then when they were vampires. “i wanted to be human so that i could have a family, but i wouldn’t feel safe bringing a baby into the world while we live here.” she took a deep breath nad moved towards stefan, looking up at him. “i just want us to be safe, and happy, and together.” after what they had been through, god knows it was the least they deserved. “and if staying here, working with damon, is what will make you happy, then that’s what we’ll do.”
“I think now, with whatever we do, we’re going to be tied to this town, whether we like it or not. That doesn’t mean we can’t leave…but it does make it a lot harder,” he exhaled, only to hesitate. He didn’t want to make Caroline unhappy, but he didn’t want to make his brother unhappy or have him be abandoned But his wife did have a point. As young as they physiologically were, their life expectancies were probably going down with just being in this town. “Listen—I’ll talk to Damon. Maybe we move to a different town but still stay close. I can commute. We can get started on trying for a family.”
“i didn’t want you to worry about me, after everything you’d been through.” caroline responded with a sigh, leaning against the kitchen island. stefan was the one who had been abducted and tortured, the last thing he needed was to be worrying about her. she raked her hands through her hair and closed her eyes for a few moments. “was it a mistake? taking the cure?” she had to know, whether it was just here having those thoughts. she had thought that once they were human, they would be safe. but even as human, people still wanted to hurt them.
“All I care is that you’re safe. And happy. You’re my wife, Caroline. Of course I’m going to worry about you.” It’s a given. No matter what Stefan had been through, he was always going to worry about Caroline before himself. He’s taken aback at her question, but shook his head, “I don’t want you to think that going after what was robbed from you is a mistake. Do you think it’s a mistake?” he asked, just because he was curious as to the reason why. Caroline had grown so much when she had turned into a vampire, did she turn human just so they could do it together?
caroline shoved the papers into the kitchen bin and turned to look at stefan as he followed her into the kitchen. “being in this town scares me.” she admitted, folding her arms across her chest and letting out a soft sigh. she didn’t want to say it, she didn’t want stefan to have to worry about her being scared, but then she didn’t think she would have to be scared for much longer. now though, it was very obviously not the case. “the augustine are targeting people like us. people who took the cure. i don’t want to be next, stefan. i don’t want to keep looking over my shoulder every time i leave the house.” when she had been a vampire, she knew at least that she had her abilities on her side. things that would help her if she ever found herself in a dangerous situation. now though, she was vulnerable, and the augustine would take advantage of that.
He wished she had told him that sooner, because if he knew that she was that scared, maybe he would have been more reluctant to jump into this. They were married, after all. Where one of them was, the other one also had to be. What she said only confirmed his suspicions that yeah, he wasn’t the only one thinking that everyone who had taken the Cure was at risk. “I wish you told me that. And I can’t promise that nothing will happen,” he told her honestly, “Because here, you never know. Even being careful, that’s never really a guarantee.” He’s stumped, but only because he doesn’t want her to stay, but he doesn’t want to leave Damon stranded. Again. “I just don’t want to let Damon down again.”
“oh.” caroline responded softly, her face falling a little. she had to admit, it was weird of stefan to make that decision without at least asking her first. especially as she had been so sure that they were both set on paris before everything with the augustine had happened. being in this town scared her now, the fact that stefan had been taken from under their nose and tortured. she wanted to get as far away from mystic falls as possible. however, it now seemed like stefan was determined to stay. “i just.. i thought we were gonna get away from here.” she sat up straight, turning around so she was facing him. “well, i guess forget about it, then.” she cleared her throat and stood up, walking into the kitchen and taking the papers with her.
He knew that he’d messed up. It was clear to see. But since he had come back, returned from being taken, he’d felt guilty. Because he’d forgotten about Damon again. Just like back in the day, Stefan didn’t go check on him. He just assumed that he was okay. And maybe this was his way, of trying to make it up to him. He cleared his throat, standing up and following her, pausing only to say, “I know I messed up. Caroline...I didn’t feel like I could say no. That’s not an excuse. That’s just why I did it.”
verses ;;
verse 1 (postiotd!stefan): right after where iotdrpg left off. stefan has been back from being kidnapped from murchadha for some time, and his human self is getting back into his life in mystic falls. he's torn between moving on and leaving with his wife caroline, and supporting his brother who is planning to stay.
verse 2 (season1vamp!stefan): stefan has just returned to his home of mystic falls after seeing elena gilbert and feeling a sense of fierce protectiveness over her as she looks exactly like his first love--katherine pierce. just having enrolled at mystic falls high school, he's determined to get to know her, and maybe, also get the chance to have a normal human life in the process.
verse 3 (ripper!stefan): stefan never turned his humanity back on after season 3 of tvd and is currently roaming all over the country, leaving a trail of ripped heads in his wake. sometimes, just sometimes, though, he returns to mystic falls just to terrorize his hometown just a little bit.
caroline--salvatore
they hadn’t spoken much about their idea to move to paris, but with the scary things going on in mystic falls right now, it seemed like the perfect idea. caroline had printed off a couple of listings, some beautiful apartments in france. eventually they’d get a bigger house, but for a starter, these were perfect. heading downstairs, papers in hand, she wandered over to stefan, who was sat on the sofa, and fell over the back of the sofa that her head ended up his lap. “hi.” she said with a grin, showing the papers. “i have something to show you.”
@sixpackstef
“Hey sweetheart,” Stefan smiled, his fingers weaving into her blonde hair, pausing once he saw what was on the papers. He hadn’t forgotten about Paris. He just felt guilty leaving Damon here, and not helping out with his new livelihood. He pressed his lips together, before hesitating, his face turning serious as he wasn’t sure how to say this, because yeah, it was all because of family, but his wife was his family too. “I might have kind of told Damon that I would help run his bar near Whitmore.”
“That’s it? No thinking about it? No dicussing with the wife?” Damon asked, frowning. “I mean, I’m not complaining, but I didn’t think you would accept this at all.”
Stefan then hesitated, because as soon as he said the words, he realized that he should have thought about it. But he just wanted to make his brother happy. “I—listen, you’re my brother. Of course I’ll do it.”
He pretends to have a shocked facial expression. “Wholy in character? The fuck. I’ll have you know, I’ve been very, very fucking good lately, Stefan.” He spoke as seriously as he could given the hilarity of the situation at hand. Chester put Benji down, half expecting him to run off to have his freedom in the park but he stood with him. “Speaking of character, I did something while you were in captivity I completely forgot about until like, two days ago.” Chester itched his nose, not really knowing how to feel but figuring his best friend would be happy for him. “Had an audition. For some short film. Had me singing and everything…” He was nervous for a response. Mainly because he remembers Stefan saying he should go for it a long time ago and he was finally doing it. It just felt wrong with the timing bu the went for his best friend and it went decently in his mind. Well, enough for him to get the part.
“Whoa whoa whoa, you sure about that or are you dropping all those f-bombs just to make it seem like I’m wrong?” he said with a little smirk, leaning down when Chester put his dog down to pet the good boy behind the ears. He was giving him a good couple of scratches, before Chester captured his attention again. “Oh, really? That’s awesome, Chester. How do you think you did?” Stefan stood up, a wide smile growing on his face. He knew this was something that Chester wanted to do, and Stefan had told him to go for it, but Stefan was so glad that he did go for it. “What’d they make you sing? Can I hear it?” he asked half-jokingly. He didn’t want to think about the fact that it was during when Stefan was locked up, because it was irrelevant to Chester’s accomplishment, and Stefan just didn’t want to think about that in general. It still was a sore subject, and he wanted to look forward to the good news. Like this.
Elena sighed, shaking her head, “They got you, my husband, who knows who else they could target next? Caroline? Lily? I’m already that involved”, she said, “If the Augustine don’t get me first, Klaus will”, Elena reminded him and pursed her lips. She wished she could tell him about what Mason did to her, how he blackmailed her on giving Klaus her blood, but she thought it wasn’t fair if Stefan knew about it when Damon had no idea of what had happened to her. The only person that she told about it was Lily, and she trusted her mother in law while going through a hard time. “What I mean is that one way or another something will get me, at least this way it will be my choice, and who knows, maybe I’ll be able to make a deal with the Augustine if I walk there willingly”
Stefan was never one to tell Elena what to do, even though he believed he was thinking the smarter way in the situation. He wanted her to make her own decisions because she was completely capable of it. But, still—it seemed like she was playing off of the sacrificial lamb trope he hoped that she had at least sort of left behind when she became human again. “That’s not a good reason to go to them, though,” he rebutted. He pressed his lips together, before then asking, “What would you even say to them, though? And—I don’t think you should be putting this all on yourself, Elena. You’re human again. You have the chance to live the full life you’ve dreamed of, to heal people in your career. You deserve to have that. I hope that’s something that you do know.”

A nice day like this one and having heard some good news from back home as well as for the recent work he was getting, he now had this time to spend with Benji instead of sticking him with his neighbor. At the park, he decides to spark conversation with the nearest unfortnate passerby. “Ite. Where do ya stand on the whole ‘training-my-dog-to-shit-on-my-enemies’ debate? Like, how morally acceptable is that?” Chester tries acting innocent before scooping up his beloved pooch, Benji as his point of reference. “Asking for a mate…” He tilts his head in the downard position to his dog in his arms. “Cause I’m thinking no but…”
Stefan can’t help but chuckle, shaking his head in amusement before responding, “I mean--I wouldn’t do it. But it seems unmalicious enough, and wholly in character, so go for it.” He didn’t believe for one second that he was just “asking for a mate”. He noticed the other’s jovial mood, but didn’t pry, figuring that if Chester had good news to share he would tell him soon enough.
“Well, maybe.” Damon shrugged, before grinning at his brother. “I have two important things to talk about. I’ll start with the easiest.” He said. “I want to offer you a partnership. Would you be interested in run this bar with me?”
He raised an eyebrow, before responding, “Yeah, of course,” he blurted out. He completely forgot about his plans to move with Caroline abroad sometime soon, and just said it. He felt like he owed his brother this. For Damon saving him. For not finding Damon.

Rebekah knew Mystic Falls better than most, and despite all the hate she had towards it - it was better than being trapped in New Orleans while her brothers fought for control. The blonde walked into the bar and sat down at one of the empty stools. After ordering her drink she turned to the person beside her. “I leave for a couple of years, and this town is still tragically boring. Shocker.”
Stefan’s not surprised to see the Mikaelson. After all, they seemed to pop in and out all the time, and never truly leave. He wasn’t sure why they felt so tied to this town, but it was also none of his business. He was picking up an order of food at the bar, paying with his card before he turned to her, “And yet, you’ve still come back. Shocker.”
“Right.” she nods, full understanding. “You know if you wanna see a bear, a zoo’s a good place to start.” it was a suggestion she knew he was aware of, but she was being funny—- well, to her, she was anyway. Her mind was already spinning, wondering if buying a ghost pepper was something you could do easily online— she thought it was, but who knew until she looked. Will would hate her for probably all of five minutes, so it was perfect. He wouldn’t be able to top this, so she would be a clear winner. “Yeah, don’t worry. I’m taking full credit for this.” she laughed.
“Those are zoo bears. It’s different, isn’t it? They’re less hungry. More fed. At least, I’d hope so,” he caught the joke though, so he chuckled through his words. Maybe Stefan was just overwhelmed. With all of the new possibilities that his life now had. It was easier to retreat to somewhere cold, and remote, and take comfort in that old desire. If he was single, maybe he would. “Good, because I’ve definitely seen ghost peppers sold on Amazon. And I definitely didn’t give you that information.
