He hadn’t anticipated - or wanted - to see anyone he knew on his routine run around the park, but there Persephone was, with Cerberus nonetheless. He’d caught the animal’s eye, and it pulled towards him. Not putting up much of a fight, Phobos walked to the much smaller girl and her dog, a hint of a smile on his face - he’d always felt a certain kinship with dogs, and this one in particular. “Nice holiday?” Phobos asked flatly, as he reached for Cerberus.

If there was any understated fact about Ares, it was that in this lifetime and his lifetime before, he knew how to treat women to fineries. This gift being for Aphrodite, only made him more determined to make sure it was perfect but he didn’t expect to run into anyone at the store. Inspecting the cut and clarity of the diamond wreath necklace at Harry Winston, he turned and was surprised to see who was standing close to him. “hey, I wasn’t expecting to see anyone here. What are you doing here?”

Just for shits and giggles, Phobos had a penchant for paying a visit to high-end department stores and surmising what the easiest thing to knick off their shelves would be. Obviously, it worked much better with another person, somewhat to his chagrin, but it always made for good fun to pull off a two-person con. What he didn’t expect, of course, was to see his father (in his strange mortal form) studying a necklace like it was a new language. “I suspect we didn’t come here for the same reason,” Phobos let out in a low husk of a voice, as his head tipped in the direction of the diamond necklace.

The very presence of Nike being anything other than a snarky bitch is enough to send alarms ringing. Her co-workers carefully tread around the female as if she would snap any time soon. “Okay, people enough! I’m not going to kill you. I’m just happy. Damn it.” Nike soon grumbled, feeling petty enough to actually scare some people now.

“There’s gotta be something wonky with your smile if people think you want to kill you, then,” Phobos grumbled, not having realized who he had responded to until he turned around. "And who's to say the two can't be mutually exclusive?"

He let out a gruff chuckle at her question, but conceded nonetheless. She was sure having fun with this, wasn’t she? Then again, he supposed that even he would have a good dose of fun if he was in her position and she in his. This thought, as minuscule and otherwise unimportant as it was, gave him more of a reason to linger around her office for the day, outside of discussing ‘business’ matters.

Stepping forward, he moved toward the camera before immediately looking away. The casual smirk that almost always rested on his face contorted as his eyes rolled at the sight of himself mid-sneeze. Phobos moved his hand to shove the camera away from himself before returning his eyes to survey the sight before him. He knew that the mortals among them – and hell, even some of the gods among them – would feel inclined to vomit at the sight of a grey body on an examining table. But, even despite the mortal form and his godly heritage, Phobos simply wasn’t like them. And neither was Melinoe, but that wasn’t entirely unprecedented. Another low chuckle escaped him, and he rasped out, “You givin’ Deimos all the credit? Well, fuck. Guess I can go into retirement now.” Phobos almost believed those words, if it weren’t for the tiny, more cynical voice inside his head that told him that her father’s empire would be brought to its knees if he laid low for even just one day. Sticking bunched-up fists into his pockets, he pondered, “So… Who or what stuck their teeth into this guy?”

Melinoe laughed and gently put the camera away, rolling her eyes at his obvious embarrassment, then turned her attention back to the body in front of her.  “This man was shot not too far from me and Eris’ apartment.  The FBI thinks that it might be in connection to the shooter at the MET and the body found outside OUI, but then again, they’ve been thinking every victim of a shooting is somehow connected.”  As Melinoe said this, she meticulously removed the man’s organ’s to try to find the bullet that entered through his chest and must have got lodged somewhere.

“You’ll tell me everything, won’t you?” She mumbled to the body in front of her, although it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that she was talking to Griffin.  She frowned to herself when she didn’t hear any whispering back.  Sometimes she heard the whispers and knew it had to be spirits, but today there was nothing.  “Oh shush.  You know I didn’t mean to give Demios all the credit.  I wouldn’t want to hurt your delicate sensitive pride.”  She teased.

He watched Melinoe’s movements, wondering silently to himself how anyone could have enough patience to go through each day with such precision and focus. Admittedly, however, one could just as easily question his own daily routine, but he chose not to dwell on that for too long. “In a city like this, they think every goddamn thing’s connected? Shit, they’re dumber than I thought. Or, maybe they’re just more paranoid than I expected…” He drawled, a slight smirk forming at the thought that he and Deimos – and, hell, everyone else Hades’ empire had come into contact with – had brought such fear to the workers whose building he now inhabited. He caught her question, as quiet as it was, and quirked up an eyebrow. “Ain’t got much to say, really. And my pride ain’t that sensitive. I just need to make sure you’re dishing out the credit where it’s due, got it?” Griffin responded, perhaps a bit too harshly (and a bit too sensitively) than he intended.

He shrugged a bit uncomfortably in his place and crossed his arms over his chest. “Uh… Know anything good around here? Seeing this guy’s insides has got me wanting some actual fuckin’ meat.” He hoped an offer for food would make up for his lapse in semi-decent conversation etiquette. In almost any other situation, Griffin wouldn’t give a shit about the way he talked to someone else. However, Melinoe (like Deimos and even Eris) were the most-liked out of his colleagues, and he’d be remiss if he didn’t at least try to give a fuck.

Phobos rolled his eyes at the cat’s hiss, having never been exceptionally fond of the small creatures in any lifetime. He felt a sneeze come up - and he mentally cursed his mortal form’s inclination towards allergies - and crossed his arms in front of his chest, feeling the unfamiliar tightness of a freshly pressed suit resting against the curve of his muscles. “Is that–” His sneeze cut off the rest of his sentence, which would’ve accounted for the sudden appearance of a camera. “Fuckin’ hell…” Phobos groaned, realizing that she’d caught him mid-sneeze. He let out a sigh and shifted slightly in his spot just next to the door. “Suit and a shave always gets me into the building without any funny looks.” He shrugged as his voice trailed off, and he walked around the cat to approach the girl. “It’s still something that the FBI needs to work on, though. If they let me get through the pearly gates, they’ve really got to sort out their shit,” Phobos explained nonchalantly, somewhat uncomfortable with the small talk currently abounding. Conversation hadn’t really been his strong suit, though not for lack of trying. He simply preferred to exert his presence in…other ways. “So, you took care of last week’s guy, right?”

Melinoe smirked, looking down her her camera and checked the photo, snickering to herself at the hilarious look on his face.  “Do you want to see it?”  She held the camera up a little bit and gestured for him to come closer.  He was shifting from one foot to the other like he was unsure if he should move further into the room.  “Well come on.  I don’t bite.  You already managed to sneak into the FBI, why stop there?”  She turned back to the body on her examination table and deftly made the an incision down the center of the man’s chest.  “If by take care of, you mean that I put accidental drowning as his cause of death, then yes.  I took care of last week’s guy.”  She raised an eyebrow at him.  “Deimos asked me too.  It was simple to do, considering he managed to truly make it seem like it was an accident.”

ability: seeing/manipulating numbers

Tyche blinked once. Then twice. And then she removed her glasses and blinked at the clear lenses, wondering if in some weird prank someone had switched her regular spectacles for Google glasses. It was the only way to explain why, in neat Times New Roman font, she could see the actual amount of money in her newest client’s bank account. Rubbing her eyes furiously, she decided that the long hours of work combined with the sleeping pills and coffee were getting to her and decided to get a drink. 

She was seated at the bar, waiting for her gin and tonic and absentmindedly people watching. Her brow furrowed as she focused on a man who was behaving rather rudely towards the waitress as he handed her the check. She hoped the waitress was well compensated for his behavior with a large tip. The goddess of fortune was just about to turn away when the waitress shrieked and hugged the patron, screaming her thanks for a hundred dollar tip, while the man simply looked shocked. It was weird. Almost as if —

Someone tapped her shoulder and Tyche immediately turned, her voice and posture defensive, “I didn’t do anything!”

In each life, Phobos unfailingly found himself in the same place at the end of the day – some little bar, drinking waters and whiskeys until he couldn’t tell which was which. It was his biggest vice just as much as it was an occupational hazard. Some nights, if not most nights, he let his eyes wander as people came in and out of the bar, inevitable finding something to set his sights on.

Tonight, however, it seemed his eyes could only rest on one person – his half-sister, Tyche. Much like the mere mortals who prayed for good fortune, Phobos himself simply felt better about his worries just by being near her, and looked forward to those brief moments – a true rarity, given all things considered. He was thankful for his dimly lit corner of the bar. Otherwise she likely would’ve noticed him keeping watch over her, ready to intimidate anyone less than satisfactory who might try to approach her. 

His attention was momentarily suspended as a shriek of joy escaped a nearby waitress. Without much thought, Phobos headed towards his half-sister, tapped her on the shoulder, and even attempted a small smile. Instead, his expression soured at her startled response. “Didn’t think you did,” he responded a bit cautiously. “Got somethin’ on your mind, or are you gonna make me take a shot for every guess I make that’s wrong?”

Melinoe looked up from behind her camera lens towards the door and rolled her eyes, not even flinching at his sudden appearance.  Her cat, on the other hand, jumps two feet in the air and hisses.  “Ignore him, he’s a coward.”  Melinoe had been hiding that cat in her lab for weeks without anyone knowing just because no one tended to visit her.  “Security breach.”  She snapped a quick candid photo of her little intruder.  She wanted to be angry that her father had most likely sent Phobos here to check on her, but it was hard to be angry when staring at the God of Fear in a suit.  “What kind of job does my dad have you doing that requires a suit?”  She put down the camera and turned to her tray of instruments to pick up her scalpel.  “Security is not my department.”

Despite the nature of his work, there was a certain comfort to it. Hades’ orders brought him to every corner of the city -- and sometimes even towards the outer periphery of those edges. And, the routine was almost something to look forward to in the familiar walls of heavily-frequented restaurants, strip clubs, and even a certain pathologist’s morgue.

One aspect of that routine were his annual check-ups on Melinoe, Hades’ daughter -- though he’d be stupid to think of her as just that. In ages past and in the current one, he’d grown surprisingly fond of Melinoe. And so, here he was yet again, casually showing up in Melinoe’s office without so much as an invitation or a warning. Phobos had always had a habit of letting himself into places regardless if he was ‘allowed’ or not, and he’d found it quite easy to slip into her department relatively unnoticed -- the magic of quick fingers and a decent suit, apparently. Hearing the sound of the door unlocking, Phobos announced his presence by biting into an apple he’d picked up on the walk to her office. “FBI needs better security,” he muttered in between chews, the growl of his voice just enough to resonate within the room.

Well, if Hemera had known that someone so attractive had been the sun-blocker, she would perhaps not have spoken so quickly. A small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth as she looked up at the man, eyes sparkling. Propping herself up on her elbows, she looked him over quickly, her gaze lingering a few seconds too long on his arms. She knew who he was, but just vaguely. Phobos. The destroyer? The finisher? Something like that. Hemera wasn’t quite sure, but she knew that he worked with her father and she had never taken much interest in her father’s work. At least not in this life. But he was attractive, and looked a little dangerous, so Hemera shot him a flirtatious smile and pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. “Yes, my sun,” she replied quickly, an innocent yet devilish look playing in her eyes. “And that was the smallest step I’ve seen a man of your size take, I think,” she said, her voice teasing. “But it’s fine.” Mainly because he was quite the view himself, and Hemera was superficial enough to appreciate that.

The unspoken rule of any criminal organization was to not fuck with the boss’s daughter. The second rule was to not fuck the boss’s daughter. And yet, here he was, inhabiting the body of a very hot-blooded male, currently on the receiving end of a flirtatious smile and a pretty face – both of which belonged to none other than Hemera, Hades’ daughter. Even if she might not know him in this form, he knew exactly who she was. Oh, he’d known her in each lifetime, every single reincarnation of their souls. And, in each rebirth, he’d known one thing about Hemera: That he shouldn’t know her.

Phobos reached into his swimming trunks, and pulled out his ever-present lighter. “My sun,” he replied, with just a hint of cockiness, as his free hand’s fingers danced around the open flame before a salty ocean breeze blew it out. With her attention seemingly grasped for the time being, Phobos couldn’t help but wonder just how far he could take this. So, he stepped out of her sunlight and beckoned for her to follow him, on the lookout for anywhere he could get a strong, cold drink.

It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and the waves were crashing against the shore. Perhaps it was regarded as a bit too early to go to the beach, but in Hemera’s defense… It was surprisingly warm outside for a day in late April. She was laying comfortably placed on a towel in the sand, her eyes peacefully closed and a smile playing on her lips. Hemera continued laying there until someone interrupted her bliss, and she opened an eye reluctantly to find someone standing over her. Blinking a couple times, she formed her lips into a small pout. “Hey, you’re blocking my sun!”

Sometimes, Phobos found himself relaxing at a beach, surrounded by the crash of ocean waves against the shoreline -- except that this ‘beach’ was actually a bartop, and the crash of ocean waves was more like the quick burn of liquor at the base of his throat. That relaxed him, not the sunshine and the sand that rubbed against already calloused feet. However, Hades had ordered him here, to see to it that some bigwig businessman with a beach house paid up, and now he was trudging through the sand, looking like a schmuck in surfer trunks. To his dismay, it seemed as though the businessman caught wind of a visit from ‘the Finisher’, and had conveniently flown off to frolic about in Europe for a few weeks. And so, Phobos stood in his place for a short while, kicking at the sand aimlessly, almost enjoying the heat on his back -- until he heard the shrill sound of a girl’s voice. Turning to her with a dead gaze, he muttered, “Your sun,” and shifted a few inches away -- his hulking frame likely still covering up ‘her’ sun -- and returned with a terse, “Better?”

*PHOBOS Alias: Griffin “The Finisher” Wolfe Age: 37 Occupation: Enforcer

The God:

Often depicted alongside his twin brother, Deimos, and his father, Ares, Phobos is the God of fear. His mother is the beautiful Aphrodite though he does not take after her attributes. He and his brother are the embodiment of fear and terror, making them a dangerous and dreaded duo to provoke.

Present-Day:

Nicknamed “The Finisher” by all who know him, Phobos is a burly mortal by the name of Griffin Wolfe. Both he and Deimos are in business with Hades’ empire of contraband and are his top men. With his title as the enforcer, Phobos is the forefront and power of the operation, the guy who makes sure no one is out of line. Some call him the fear factor, and rightly so. Not a stranger to violence or death, he welcomes no remorse or guilt.

Though not genetically related in this life to Deimos, the two have been inseparable through their many mortal lifetimes together. Deimos, works alongside him as a cleaner, mainly cleaning up his bloody messes and body counts. They make a good team even in this lifetime. The two twins also work with Erebus, God of darkness who is the personal hit man for Hades. He gets his weapons from Hephaestus who can’t stand the two for their existence and being a constant reminder of his wife’s infidelity.

Phobos is a man of action and no words, he is silent and extremely deadly. In his mortal body the God is a formidable contender and clever in the ways of torture and murder. His tongue is silver and forked, ready to make a point when he does manage to speak more than one word at a time between grunts. He has no patience and often will pull the trigger first, then asked questions later.

Relationships

Deimos: Deimos works as a cleaner within Hades’ empire of contraband. The two are a team, often Deimos cleaning up after Phobos and making sure there are no loose ends or any evidence left that could trace back to them or the empire. He is the less aggressive of the two and also the chattier of the two.

Erebus: God of darkness and a hit man, the three Gods are normally seen together on or off the job. Erebus isn’t a man of many words either, but both he and Phobos have a camaraderie and understanding of how the business works with respect to the three of them working as a team.

Hades: The President of all things contraband. It is an underground operation kept away from all eyes of the authorities but brings the most wealth to the corporation. The money is dirty, and both Zeus and Poseidon don’t like it, but they have no way of stopping Hades’ because he holds one third of the shares.

Hephaestus: The uncle and legal husband of their mother, Aphrodite. Hephaestus gives both Phobos and Deimos a hard time when dealing and providing them with weapons solely because they are their father’s sons and an eternal reminder of Aphrodite’s unfaithfulness to him. He is quick to throw them under the bus when Deimos does not do a good job at cleaning up, which rarely ever happens.
