Reagan had never seen Devlin cry, but even in her dazed state she could tell he was close to doing so and that broke her heart. He apologized and her instinct was to shake her head, but that only caused her to emit another hiss of pain. This wasn’t his fault, none of this was his fault. How could he have known that something this horrible would happen? Her heart sank as she took in the small glimpses of his face that she could see through hooded lids. This was supposed to be the best night of Devlin’s life - everything he had worked for had led to this event. He was showing the world that people who came from nothing could build an empire, and now everything was crashing down. Quite literally.
He pressed his jacket against her head and Reagan cried out, a searing pain shooting through her body. All of a sudden Nik was there too, and the fear in his eyes shook her to her core. She was about to speak again when a flash of long blonde hair caught her eye - except she wasn’t really seeing it in real time, she was remembering something. “Cass?” she mumbled, not sure why Devlin’s wife’s name had come to mind and immediately forgetting she had said it as soon as the syllable passed through her lips.
She looked up at Devlin and Nik again through blurred vision and for the first time since she had come to, Reagan was struck with fear. She could barely see, everything looked hazy, screams and shouts echoed in her ears. Was this what dying felt like? Was she dying? Because this certainly wasn’t how Reagan Donahue planned to go. “I’m tired…” she muttered, knowing that she should fight to stay awake but a wave of fatigue swept over her and refused to lift. Taking one more look at Devlin and Nikolas’ faces, Reagan coughed heavily and then spoke in a broken voice. She was terrified that this was the last chance she was going to get. “I love you…” Her eyes fluttered closed again and the world returned to black, her body going limp but her heartbeat weakly plugging along.
He had no free hand to reach up and rub the tears out of his eyes. Not that it mattered, tears were reserved for those you truly loved, those you would die for, and that all applied to Reagan. He was the one to shake his head as she moved, tensing up as any movement only served to cause her further pain. Eyes searching wide and frightened for any kind of assistance. But none came. There was no one but himself to blame really. This night had been put together like the huge spectacle it had now turned into. He had been downright naive to think that they could have a celebration in public without any tragedy befalling on account of his second job. Devlin knew he had become a decent actor, but he ought to know that the facade he put on for the rest of the world was not real, and that the real one would come back to bite him in the ass. No, bite his loved ones in the ass. They were paying for his mistakes, and nothing weighed heavier on his shoulders and heart than that.
A stream of husky apologies left his lips as she cried out in pain, pain he was causing her. “I have to. I’m sorry kid I’m so sorry.” The act took all the mental energy he had, so much so that he barley noticed Nik appearing out of the blue. Devlin took deep breaths, holding onto Reagan’s shoulder to keep applying pressure. “I found her like this.” He managed to tell his little brother, glancing in his direction. Hearing his wife’s name sent another spike of fear trough Dev. Had she left like he had asked? Or was she still in here risking her life? He had told her off once but god knew if she had listened that second time. “Cass is fine.” he assured Reagan, not wanting her to worry about anyone but herself right now. Chances were that she had lost a lot of blood, and Dev feared that if they could not get her to the hospital soon then she might be in even more danger. Tired? The fresh panic caused the blonde to shake, his hands and heads shaking simultaneously. “No. No Reagan you have to stay awake.” he insisted, cursing under his breath. “Nik can you see anyone? We need to get her to a hospital.” The urgency was not to be mistaken. Taking back his hand for a minute, Devlin unbuckled his belt, a plan forming in his mind, the helpless brother paralyzation about to fade away as the soldier in him was awakened. “Reags..” The despair from before met a wall. One he had slammed down, hard. Using the belt he buckled his coat, soaked with her blood, to her head, the belt making a workable loop around her head to keep the coat in place. “We need to move her Nik, get up.” Devlin ordered, rising to his own feet and taking Reagan by the shoulders, gesturing for Nik to take the feet, so they could carry her downstairs and outside. Not surprisingly a sea of ambulances were parked right outside. “You ride with her, okay? I’ll follow with Cass.”
Nik frowned as Cass' name left Reagan's lips, and she looked confused, battling to stay awake. Worry fluttered through his chest, though it was easy to push all his worries to the back of his mind as his adrenaline took precipice. "No, Reagan, you gotta stay awake, okay?" He leaned back a little, giving her some room for her to gain some bearings, and focus on a fixed point instead of shifting around them. She was fading, fast.
"No," He answered his brother, he had only passed victims of the blast, he hadn't seen emergency services yet. "Only people who are hurt." Devlin's hand came down hard on the floor, and he was about to suggest getting them the hell out of the crumbling building before it collapsed, and then his brother started barking orders. Nik was more than happy to oblige, quickly grabbing Reagan's feet, the Taylor brothers were fast in getting her now unconscious form out to the street where a sea of ambulances were curbside. Nik simply nodded at his brothers instructions, more than willing to have to put up a fight to go with her. He had just got her back, and seeing the EMTs wheeling her unconscious form into the back of an ambulance seemed all too real of what he had thought been his very past, before she had come back.
