These are a few pictures I managed to take of our final exhibition pieces!
I got back from my week away and found that the solution I had made up did eventually form crystals, it having been a week since I left them who knows how long it must have taken!
Today we had a workshop where we had to try and describe our pieces on a big sheet of paper and then receive feedback from other groups. I feel this helped us reflect on where things were working and what made sense, and similarly what did not.
We finished the activity by laying all the pieces of paper out to form some sort of molecular structure! Im not quite sure what the purpose of this was…
More photos from screen printing yesterday!
Photographs from screen printing yesterday!
I left my go pro overnight capturing some salt I had dissolved into water.. I had it set to take one photograph every minute, hoping I would be able to capture the crystals forming!
As you can see from the second photograph when I woke up there was nothing to be seen, sadly the reaction did not work and I was unable to capture crystals forming.
Initial packaging concept for our 'Grow your own crystals' box!
I added a slight grain to a outer glow on the text which reminded me of the way the crystals formed on string.
Here is the final outcome. I uploaded both the original using the colours we plan to use on the final piece but also a development which I believe we are planning to use as it is much more bold with the darker colours and the text stands out much more.
A few further developments using a vector illustration I created.
A few initial logo ideas using the name 'Clear-Cut'
Change of name...
We decided to come across as a professional outcome 'group4fun' might not quite cut it as our branding name.
I thought that 'Clear-Cut' would make for quite a nice name as it touches on the idea of crystals and the transparent qualities and smooth cuts! It also sounds a bit like 'clean-cut' which reflects the sleek modern and professional outcome we desire. It also reflects the subtle colour scheme we are trying to achieve and geometric patterns.
Basic visualisation of the lollipops, will ensure facts are 100% accurate and interesting/fun for final laser cutting :)
Lollipop sticks for sugar crystals.
Decent size and thickness to allow laser cutting and for sugar crystals to grow :)
I started researching liquid crystals under microscopes then drew the lines from the picture. I thought they were quite interesting so I collaborated some of Joe's designs with my own.
I also created this 3D pattern using a more three dimensional visualisation of the cholesteryl benzoate molecule and made a weird pattern using a similar technique! Once again this could potentially be screen printed.
I made some pretty weird patterns using the cholesteryl benzoate molecule which we could potentially screen print using the devore technique to produce a similar effect but it would be more relevant to the project!
test sample of devore technique on fabric! I popped into the printing studio today and filmed the devore process.
