“You’re a protective brother, that’s all.” Mitri said. “I didn’t knew she left for me to stay, I just found about that now, I knew she left and I never manage to talk with her and ask her why or try to convince her to stay.” Mitri looked at Adam and bite her lips when he said she was good in the sack. “She is family, if my sister had run away I’m sure Cat would look for her as well…”

“Is not about lack of self-esteem, is about how good I feel when she is around… I love her.”

Adam twitched. “So you didn’t think it was odd she broke up with you and then simply ran off? Why didn’t you come to me? We could have sent out a search party and found her if we’d known early enough!”

“Well good. I’m so glad the two of you can love eachother again.” He drawled sarcastically.. “Maybe you should love eachother in Clan Jackal.”

“Excuse me? Who do you think you are growling at!” Mercy crossed her arms around her chest

“Is something the matter?”

“Oh everything is just peachy...thanks for asking.” Sarcasm dripped from his words, thick.

A single note of a laugh escaped him which he covered by clearing his throat. Fidgeting he sat up straighter in his chair. He was used to finding the funny, light side of things but his mind told him it wasn’t wise to do that right at this moment - even if that thought had kicked in a fraction of a second too late. As his alpha continued to speak he listened quietly, nodding along. “Yes, sir” He said nodding still.

“Yeah, but not like serious trouble. Is it possible for wolves to have like ADHD or something, because he’s hyper like all the time.” She asked seriously, looking up at her Dad. She thought for a moment “Is it because he broke the glass in the English Class door?” Jesse looked at him for a moment “I suppose if I ask what’s going on with her and you, you’re not going to tell me are you”

“Not even Mercy? Or someone who’s a good friend of Mercy’s and who’s totally trust worthy?”

Adam glowered at her. “It’s called incompetence.” He snapped, not really meaning to. “It’s because he can’t go a day without getting detention.” He wanted to snarl but stopped himself. “Ask her yourself. What do I know...I’m just the evil tyrant ruining her life.”

“When did I ever claim I found Mercy trustworthy? She keeps that monstrosity in her yard just to piss me off.”

“I’ll stand…” Derek hovered in the doorway, his hands clammy and his heart beating a mile a minute. “I-I have to tell you something.”

The apprehension wafting off the kid made him sit up at attention. “What’s happened? Are the girls alright?” He demanded.

Adam stared for a moment in complete silence. “....what?”

Pack Dinner

Although she knew they hadn’t been doing anything wrong, Jesse was still apprehensive of Curran telling her Dad about what he’d seen in Ben’s room. She sat in her seat chatting to Arcas beside her about how his penance for getting detention was going, fiddling with the table cloth trying not to look across at Ben or her Dad too much. Arcas seemed his normal hyper self despite everything that was going on. It made her chuckle to see how well he seemed to cope with getting in trouble, her laugh drawing Kono into the conversation. It was only when her Dad started talking that they fell quiet. 

On hearing what it was that Warren had to say a grin spread over her features. She waited a moment, grinning at both Kyle and Warren but as soon as her Aunt had spoken she couldn’t hold it in and more. Jumping up from her seat an excited squeal escaped her as she ran round to Warren and wrapped her arms round him “Congratulations!” She beamed at him before going round to hug Kyle “Welcome to the family!” Warren had always been one of the pack she saw like an Uncle and her happiness for him was written all over her face.

Adam toasted Warren with his wine glass and took a sip. Mercy’s squeal made him look up and watch as she embraced Kyle. Cat’s response did surprise him. As she took her seat he gave her a small nod of approval. Once Jesse returned to her seat, Adam turned to Kyle. “Welcome. I hope you’ll find the pack accommodating. If not...” He shrugged. “Well I imagine Warren will take care of that but my door is always open.”

Getting an armful of Mercy, Kyle laughed and squeezed her tight. When she pulled back he pressed a kiss to her cheek. Having her there tonight was such a huge relief. He knew he at least had one person in his corner. Well besides Warren. “Thank you.”

The blond woman made him frown and he glanced at Warren in question. He didn’t recognize her but he offered her a smile and his thanks. He’d have to ask Warren about that later. Jesse, one of Adam’s daughters came flying around the table, throwing herself at Warren. Seeing his fiance with the girl made him all warm. Perhaps there would be a family in their future. He always thought Warren would make a wonderful father. After receiving his own hug, Kyle thanked her and accepted Warren’s hand under the table. “Thank you. All of you. This is quite the heart warming welcome.” He exchanged a toast to Adam with his own wine and settled back in his seat.

Adam turned his attention back to the table. “We are also celebrating my sister, Cat’s return to the pack. She’s been away for a number of years and has decided to return to us. I’ve met with Curran and she will be re-initiated to the pack on the next full moon. Please join me in welcoming her back to the fold....” Turning to his sister he offered a toast to her as well.

Pack Dinner

Adam took his seat at the head of the table. He poured himself a glass of red wine as the pack milled about slowly taking their seats. Sipping his wine he watched Riley trudge in and sit next to him, hands folded in her lap. She’d been quiet the past few days. Much to quiet. Beside her Kono took a seat. Adam had so hoped the two would become friends. He still held on to that small glimmer. It could still happen.

As he took another sip Arcas came stumbling in, Derek trudging behind. Arcas sat beside Kono and Derek across from him. It did not go unnoticed that Derek refused to meet anyone’s eyes. Jesse came in next leading Mercy. That came as a surprise. Adam raised his glass to her in a saute as she seated herself across from Jesse.

Cat came in with Ben at her heels. She took one look at Adam and plopped herself into the seat. Quiet. Dimitri came in the opposite door and sat beside Jesse. Adam wasn’t sure if he should be relieved or annoyed, so he nodded to him.

Warren came in last, leading Kyle by the hand. Adam had approved of this. Warren needed to present Kyle to the pack as his intended mate. What better place to start than now? Pulling the char beside Mercy out for Kyle, Warren took his seat across the table from Adam.

Once everyone was seated, Adam rose to his feet. “I’d like to welcome everyone to this Pack Dinner. I know it’s been a while since we had a gathering like this. We are celebrating quiet a few things tonight....” He raised his glass and held it out. “First....I’d like to offer the floor to Warren.”

“We were dating back then…” he said stopping for a second and biting his lips. “She was sure you wouldn’t approve us being together so eventually we broke up, Cat was still afraid that you would kick me out so she left for me to stay…. When I found out that she was leaving i tried to look for her and stop her but I was too late…”

Adam coughed. “Right...I forgot...I’m an unreasonable tyrant.”

“So you knew....and you didn’t think it was important enough to tell me about? You just thought you’d go running off on your own and bring her home? Are you really that stupid?” He got up and paced the room. “You realize she went running off to another pack? Fell in love with another wolf? And yet you still sit here and defend her. She must be really good in the sack. That or you have really terrible self-esteem. Which is it Dimitri? I don’t raise my wolves to be this gullible.”

“Oh we are so watching The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel!” She said excitedly

“You don’t trust Arc? I mean I know he’s accident prone but still.” She thought for a moment “Actually I didn’t think it was possible for a werewolf to be so clumsy” She admitted with a chuckle. “And what about Aunt Cat, why don’t you trust her?” She asked more seriously. “What about if it was with someone who wasn’t part of the pack?”

“Arcas can’t keep himself out of trouble which leads me to believe he couldn’t possibly keep you out of trouble. Cat....well your Aunt is a little too focused on herself to properly guard you either.” He explained coolly.

“Absolutely not!”

Arcas rubbed the back of his neck, at a loss for what to say in response to that. At length he went with “These things just kinda happen to me, I promise I’m not doing it on purpose or even consciously.” 

The young wolf nodded “Yeah. It’s like the time I leaned on the French doors back home and it just shattered. I had to get stitches after that…glass everywhere..”

Adam sat back down and covered his face with his hands and groaned.

“I’m surrounded by incompetence.” He took a breath then leveled a glare on Arcas. “You will not only serve your detention at the school but you will also be on construction duty every evening and weekend until I decide you’ve learned your lesson. They are starting a new wing at Jackal House and need all the hands they can get. Do I make myself clear?”

“Well. The first person I saw at the pack house. And I will not tell you who, because it wasn’t their fault that they were here” Hearing about the beast Lord she knew she should speak to him. Explain what happened. She didn’t have a good reason, she didn’t for leaving. She was a young woman that was scared of her only friend being kicked out of his only home. And now it was happening again. Dimitri was going to be kicked out because of her. Wrapping her arms around herself as she heard Adam punch a whole in the wall she leaned her head against the window, trying to keep in any tears that were threatening to come out. 

“I’m just going to go to my room” Cat stated holding her arms around herself still and headed to the door. “And for the record, just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean you have to ruin someone elses life from it” That meant to her aswell. Just because she liked Dimitri, she knew she should have just kept her distance because she knew how her brother would be.

“No.” He caught her arm before she got to far. His fingers squeezed a little tighter. “Because I don’t like something? Oh...I forgot. I’m supposed to be okay with you abandoning your family and your pack because of a little romance.” He spun her around so she faced him again. “For the record!” He snarled. “I don’t kick people out of my pack for being in love...I kick them out for being sniveling back stabbers that are more concerned with themselves and their stupid little bubble then the entirety of the pack!”

He shoved her away. “Go. Go run off with Dimitri and make up some story of what a tyrant I am. Just remember...when you get into trouble...it wasn’t me who turned my back on you. Get out of my face!”

Wrapping her arms tightly around her brother she buried her head in his shoulder. “After taking his body to a friend, I found each one of them.” Cat stated closing her eyes “They wont ever hurt me or anyone else” She stated grabbing his shirt. “I’m sorry I left big brother.” Cat said as she pulled away and looked up at her brother. “I won’t ever leave again”

He stiffened. “Who?” He demanded wanting to know the person his sister trusted more than him in her moment of need. It made his blood boil. He needed to crush something. Do something. Anything to alleviate this sudden pressure.

Taking her face in his hand he stared down at her. “This is out of my hands, you realize? I will have to bring your case before the Beast Lord and petition for your acceptance into the pack. I wish you’d never left. Things are different now. We will have to decide what to do with Dimitri as well. I won’t have both of you under the same roof.” Letting her go he stormed over to the wall. With a growl that threatened to shake the house he put fist through the drywall.

Father, Daughter

“Not planning on it.” She pulled her knees to her chest, resting her chin on them. “All I need is you, me and Jess.”

He kissed her head and sighed. “You will always have us little one. I only wish I could give you the family you truly deserve. But for now, the pack will suffice.”

She gave her alpha a small smile “O’ahu didn’t really do winter, not like here anyway. But the cold is already starting to feel more normal”

Her eyes widened momentarily but her features soon relaxed. Kono nodded “I know” She gave a sad smile “Some times their jobs were more important, how could they not be when they were protecting our country…..I respect them for being able to put what they wanted to do second for a greater cause.”

“Few places do winter like here. At least we have a full four seasons.”

Adam sighed. He leaned forward and placed his hand over hers. “Protecting one’s child is foremost the most important thing to any parent. Do not for an instant think they put the country over you. They protected the country for you. So that you could live in a safe environment. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for my daughters. If it meant I had to be away from them to ensure their safety, as much as I would hate it, I would do it.” He gave her hand a squeeze. “Things are not always what they seem, Kono.”

“I have a pretty good idea what this is about.” He said taking a deep breath, this would be so easier if Cat wasn’t Adam sister. “I also wanted to talk with you about her as well…..”

“Were you aware that the reason Cat left the pack was because of you?”

“Answer carefully....”

Arcas winced “….yeah….” He answered warily, deciding it was best not to mention that he meant four this year. He wasn’t a stranger to detentions. 

“No!” He shook his head quickly “It was an accident! I knocked on the glass to get the teachers attention and it just broke……next time I’ll definitely knock on the wood of the door” He rushed out the explanation.

Adam saw red and stormed away from the young wolf. “All I ask you to do is behave like a respectable member of this pack and this is how you react?”

“An accident? You put your hand through a window by accident?”
