Does Scott Pilgrim Deserve the Hate???
(Spoilers‼️)
Scott Pilgrim is (arguably) the most flawed character of the series, but also the main character (excluding Scott Pilgrim Takes Off). Being the main character, we understand his background and perspective more than we would other characters. Sure, the man did date a freshly seventeen-year-old girl, but he felt immense guilt about doing so, and got criticized by the other people he held close. As I define evil as someone doing something with full intent to harm another, he did not intend to hurt Knives, instead using her as a means of resolve to his broken heart after Envy Adams. In all forms of Scott Pilgrim (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Scott Pilgrim comics) Scott truly loves Ramona. He’s beat-up when she leaves without a trace in novel five/six, and goes to cope the same way he did in the past with Knives, but with guidance and advice from Wallace. In Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, he creates the A.K. shield to avoid his past self and Ramona from ever dating, but present-day Scott recognizes the flaws in his future-self’s thinking. Scott knows he doesn’t wish to ever be like him, which shows character growth of his previous flaws that lead him to this point. Both Scott and Ramona grow, but Scott causes Ramona’s growth just as she does to Scott. The two both have flaws, but that’s why they are meant for each other. I don’t justify Scott dating Knives, but I understand why, and I don’t believe he’s entirely evil for doing so; he’s just wrong. No, Scott Pilgrim is not an evil character, just a flawed one. He is just a man afraid to be wounded again after past experiences, and for that, I cannot blame him.
Does Ramona Flowers Deserve the Hate?
(Spoilers‼️)
I feel as if we just dislike women who go against our Manic Pixie Dream-Girl standards. Yes, Ramona is a flawed character, but so is Scott. Ramona Flowers is so hated against mostly to people who only watched Scott Pilgrim vs. The World the movie, but she is more fleshed, introspective, and reflective primarily in the anime, as well as in the comics. In the comics, Ramona’s Manic Pixie-ness is a persona which men, like Scott, were proven to enjoy and personally benefits her. If she knew this was working, than why wouldn’t she keep it up. However, that facade cracks in the fifth novel when she sporadically disappears because of her unhappiness in this “fulfilling” relationship. The woman flees from her problems instead of approaching them, but she does so in the end. It’s not like you’ve never ghosted someone. In reality, she’s a girl working a job at Amazon/Netflix, freshly moved into Toronto, and immediately having Scott pining for her; it’s a lot to get used to, especially after a bad breakup with Gideon. The glow is a normal thing, it’s like a manifestation of jealousy, which is justified after the breakup with Gideon, who gave her the glow in the first place. Even before Gideon, if two twins wanted to play with your feelings at the same time, of course you’d want revenge and double time them. Sure, how she left Lucas Lee was messed up, but she was an edgy teenager and Lucas Lee was too much of a supportive figure for Ramona, which wasn’t what she needed, or was ready for at the time. Her motivations are clear, and although they may not be the best, they aren’t purposely to intend harm, which is what makes an evil character. So, no, I don’t believe Ramona Flowers deserves the hate, nor do I think she’s a bad person.
Recession Indicators???
In the past trends of 2024, such as the Office Siren trend or the Bayonetta Glasses trend, reflect a subconscious desire to dress in business casual attire, which is not something we strived for back in the ‘90s or ‘00s. In the ‘90s and ‘00s, we dressed in “Y2K” fashion, which was done with financial stability, but not in 2008 where the trends began fading. This could be because of a new era and new century, or it could be an indicator of a recession. This is why I believe the Office Siren and Bayonetta Glasses are the current trend, as we crave for financial stability, despite the fact that people in an office workplace environment do not dress like this. In 2008, people often preferred to wear button-up shirts, miniskirts, and black tights; which is also used in the Office Siren Aesthetic. Uggs, the shoe, were also popular just as it is now. We often revert to trends based on the financial state of our bank accounts, as well as the country’s, just as we did during WII when people faked owning nylons. Trends are predictable, not only because of the reminiscence of what we thought was more fashionable back than, but also what we subconsciously desire out of life.
A man walks into a cannibal bar,
He turns to the barkeeper and asks, “Happy Sunday, what’s on the menu?”
The bartender turns to the decrepit man with a cheesy smile and responds in an Italian accent,
“A-men.”
The bartender immediately gets shot on the spot.
Song Review - Forever You
Typically, I don't care for modern jazz, but this reminds me of a cozy, small coffee shop in somewhere like Woodland... The song is warm, like a hot coffee at exactly 7:15 in the morning with a splash of cream and a side of unsalted, semi-sweet caramel. I'm not much of a caramel person, so this song is like the one caramel taffy I got in San Francisco one time in a candy shop at Pier 39 with my friends. It's reminiscing about a sweet, cozy, domestic life, which I haven't fully lived yet. I feel the song is from the perspective of a hardened, stoic man who is reminiscing about his late wife. Melancholic, but sweet. The reason I think this is because of the lyric, "The one I live for and die for, the one I wish I had more time for," which could either be taken as neglect, but because of his tone, I believe it's reminiscing. I would highly recommend Dennis van Aarssen; his sound is unique, timeless, yet vintage and antique.
Best Houseplants Ranking — Pt. 1
Getting a houseplant is a big investment not only in money, but in time. So let’s talk flora, what foliage would compliment your personal aesthetic, lifestyle, and situation the most?
Arrowhead Plant (Syngonium, Nephthytis)
The Pink Arrowhead is a personal favorite of mine and is quite low maintenance, which is great for the forgetful people (like me), and fits well in a hyperfeminine, rose-colored bedroom. They like damp and shade, but prefers bright indirect light too. They breed more Syngonium fast. They are also a perennial, which is pretty sweet
2. Succulent
Succulent care is like a more flamboyant cactus. They love direct sunlight, just as a cactus does, and live in dry soil. Just like a cactus, you’re more likely to overwater than under. They use a lot of cactus things because their environment’s just like a cactus. There are a vast amount of different types of succulents, so there is most likely going to be a plant for your room’s aesthetic.
3. Cactus
Just the Succulent in a different font, but I’ve gotta warn you that the spikes often come off and prick me in the foot, so that’s why I stopped getting cacti. If you want a cactus, that’s good for you though. There’s a lot of different cacti. They need more sun than Succulents, but they’re practically the same in terms of care. They also need draining like the succulent because of root rot.
Do you want to help the environment but don’t have any money to spare? Well I have a solution!
You could:
Start a compost in your backyard
Donate clothing
Use fabric from unwanted clothing
Use reusable utensils and napkins
Abstain from using a plastic straw (very difficult for me too :( )
Ride a bike (rollerskates, scooters, walk, etc.) to go short distances
Use animal fecal matter as fertilizer, especially rabbit droppings (as gross as it seems, it works, I tried it
Start reading my new blog (this one right here!!)
Keep grass instead of rocks for your front yard (and it looks better)
Limit your spending when possible
RECYCLE!!! Especially plastic bottles and cans!
Limit meat, specifically beef, despite the difficulty of doing so…
Pick up litter when you see it and dispose of it properly
Actually use the recycle options in public places
Go thrifting for clothing! It’s fun and stylish while helping the environment (and tends to be cheaper depending on where you go)
There’s plenty of other ways to help, but these are some easier ones to do. I do try my best to do these things as well and I hope it could help you during your day-to-day life!
