Megatron X Magnus is a perfect ship because the relationship tangeably improves both characters. Both of them are better off for it.

Theres like a fundamentally selfishness to megatron. The reason he went down the path of peace through tyrany is that he started to believe his opinion was so right, that nobody else knew better than him. And anyone fighting him is stupid. He thought he could convince Optimus of his side by showing him what he already knew. He coulsnt fathom that someone can know what he knows about this society and not want to join him. His ego and self-rightousness turned him into the despot he became. But post war? What is he to do? On the lost light hes far from an authority, despite literally being an authority. The cracks have formed in his self image of the greatest mind of Cybertron. He starts talking to Ultra Magnus. He realises how much of a thoughtful, well-read bot he is. They can talk politics and philosophy. Megatron realises he is not the smartest man in every room.

Magnus' brain works on binaries. Either you are good or bad. Its how he copes. He spent centuries operating under the Tyrest Accord. A set of strict moral rules. You are either good and follow those, or bad and don't. But his entire view came shattering down when he found out out Tyrest, the forefront in morality Magnus had been running his life based off, revealed his true colors. The world wasnt ao black and white. And then just as magnus' world of morality came crashing down. Megatron is on the ship. Historically the most evil cybertronian to ever live, and yet, Magnus feels a kinship with him. Clearly morality has to be greater than black and white if Megatron has more in common eith Magnus than anyone else on the crew.

They both grow. Become better people because of eachother. More open-minded, more whole. Also they bang silly style every night
