I find myself with a soft spot for low brow art, and it's about time I started sharing my own. Initially I started an Instagram account, under the same name, but stuff keeps getting deleted! Allowing myself a slight hiatus

I think I’m going to give myself, I don’t know, maybe a week or two? Just to see how I feel about doing erotic art, in the aftermath of having my Instagram account deleted. I’m not that worked up about it, but it’s made me think about what I want to do moving forward.

I have got some lovely offers from people to let me draw them recently though. So I’ll definitely be doing some more, don’t worry!

But to elaborate about how I feel, regarding having my account deleted, on one hand it’s not that big a deal, it was bound to happen. It’s happened to most of the artists I really admired on there, multiple times in several cases! So it’s almost a badge of honor haha!

But on the other hand it made me feel, at the time, as though I’ve been doing something terrible, something wrong!

Of course that’s not true, but it took me a few days to stop feeling confronted by it, as though I was being personally judged, and like there might be some sort of further ramifications or repercussions.

I suppose it boils down to underlying sexual guilt, and the fear of being judged; maybe even the fear of coming across as creepy; or inadvertently offending someone.

My relationship with sex is strange, because it both fascinates and terrifies me.

I’m mostly fascinated.

But also bloody well terrified!

And, as often the case, that probably stems from my family and the impressions I got as a child. Not surprisingly, my parents are horribly awkward about the subject, and I grew up feeling worried about it. But like I say, fascinated as well.

Perhaps it’s the allure of the taboo? Or maybe some of us are just more strongly drawn to the sensual and erotic, the carnal, animal part of being alive.

I also remember when I was young there was a girl, a year older than me, who I used to play with. And she said one day that we couldn’t play “botties” anymore, and that her father would borrow the neighbor’s gun and shoot me if we did! That’s got to be a contributing factor, right? Haha!

Why is it always sex and death?!

Anyway, like I say, I’m not that worked up about it, I just want to make sure I still want to do it... though I think I know the answer already! ;D

Light painting - Scroll through for mild gratuity! Okay, I promise I won't make a habit of photographic self portraits, even sudo-arty ones like these haha! But I wanted to have a go at something new, with my new camera. This is what's called 'light painting', a process where you set the camera to a long exposure and then, in the dark, shine a light over a subject, in this case me, and gradually build up an image. It's very experimental, because you can't really tell what you're doing and just have to guess and keep trying different things. Hands. Sorry I've been absent lately! I've been busy and also a bit uninspired. But here's a set of pictures I did ages ago, because a friend mentioned she had a thing for men's hands, and I kind of like how they turned out. Now I'll be the first to admit I don't have the most many hands, but these slim, dexterous digits have served me (and a number of women) quite well over the years haha! Femme Fatale I did this illustration based on a photo of the lovely @milk.in.armour and took inspiration for the geometric tiles from the Frank Lloyd Wright designed building/interior that was used for Deckard's apartment in Bladerunner. Something about the original photo made me think of a kind of film noir femme fatale or seductress, using her allure to get what she wants or needs. Exposed, yet utterly in control. A Slime Monster Appears!! I finally got around to finishing colouring this! I posted the original sketch a while back I think, but I did some additional sketches for the background and torch elements. I scanned the linework and then colored everything digitally. 'Neon Wonderland' (or something)

I was inspired to do this portrait of talented (if really morbid/macabre/gory) fellow artist @irresistibleforceparadox by a picture she posted where she's wearing this really brightly colored, skimpy outfit, which just really popped so I had to illustrate it!

I did the figure in pen, with some values put in with gray markers, and then coloured her digitally.

Initially I was going to just do a plain background, but it felt unfinished and dull, so I ended up collaging bits of a whole load of photos, mostly of Japan, and assembled this sort of futuristic, grungy, rain drenched, neon city scene. I then went over it, adding and changing the signage, to try and suggest a heavily Japanese/Asian influenced, multicultural city, your typical Cyberpunk fare. I used some interesting fonts, designed to look like Japanese and Chinese writing, but actually be relatively legible English text haha! Blue & red sign is Almost Japanese, the red/orange & yellow sign is Electroharmonix, and the black & purple at the back is Ming Imperial. There's also some real kanji around the place too.

Hey I'm excited to finally share this finished picture I did of my friend @_michellekasey_ who's been away, so I wanted to wait. This turned into one of the more ambitious pieces I've done, I think because if the detailing in the background and the strong, but somehow subtle shadowing on her. It was interesting doing a portrait of someone I actually know, even if not really really well. Strangely I found I was more worried about getting it right, I suppose because it's not anonymous in the way that a lot of my work has been haha! Anyway, Michelle is one of those really genuine, warm, positive people, that inspires you to try a little harder, be a little kinder, and try to be a bit more in touch with you own self. She's just a really beautiful person, and I triiiiied to capture a little of her magic haha! I based the picture on a great photo of her, I'll go and check the photographer's username in a second, and then I drew in the background from reference pictures I took in my garden. The line-work and colouring are essentially all traditional, but as always I cleaned up the details and accidents digitally, and I fixed the levels to give it some punch. As always there are things I wish I'd done differently/better, but all in all I'm pleased. #sensual #eroticart #sacredsexuality #artisticnude

Naughty Fairy - Scroll for the 'naughty' bits! Based on another lovely anonymous submitted reference picture! I couldn't make out said naughty bits in the reference, it was a bit blurry and bright, so I just did my best haha! I'm actually very much a vagina man! Cosmonaut Me 02 I had just finished exercising and I noticed how the light caught my glistening body... So I took some pictures and made myself into a spaceman haha! Again! Workflow for this was first of all staying with a digital collage using elements of the best two of the pictures I took. With the addition of some pictures of glass cones, which I manipulated into a phallic form, I finished off the plastic dollar store blaster I was holding (I lied,I kind of do like guns, just not what they do to people and creatures... Space guns are fun though!) I also added the suggestion of a helmet using a little digital painting. When I was happy with everything I put the resulting image on my tablet and did a quick tracing. Finally I stayed up much too late and inked in all the black! I created a few more tones in some areas using water in brush pen to push the black ink around. Mermaid... slightly evil looking mermaid! I've been seeing people post mermaids for May, and when I came across some drawings I did sitting by the beach a few months ago, I decided if do a colour version of one. Scroll through to see the photographed picture, rather than scanned and fixed, as well as the original drawings, which don't look quite so evil haha! It's something about the mouth... I'm quite pleased with how the scales came out though! I cooled them with just two pens, purple and blue, over the top of fine black outlines, and then added little dots of white with a gel pen I found really cheep yesterday! Anonymous - Android Callgirl maybe? Femme fatale in a futuristic city? I'll let you decide. I had fun with some brighter colours with this one. I knew I wasn't going to have much detail, so I had to rely on the strength of the dynamic silhouette and said strong, bright colours. I'm not sure if I maybe amped them up too much actually? Scroll to see the raw untouched scan, which will give you an idea of the slightly more subtle colours of the original, and the kind of fixes and tweaks I do digitally to clean up a piece like this. I've been following her for ages, since even before I started this account, and I've always loved her art. It's got a great vibrancy and attitude!
