“We’re not parting ways for a while yet, though I don’t blame you if you want to leave ship early. Just keep me informed. In the meantime, I’m going to contact a friend who might be able to help us find something to prove the Reapers’ existence. You’re all dismissed until further notice.”
She stepped away from the door, leaving space for her team to leave, casually observing all of them until her gaze settled.
“Garrus, mind staying behind for a minute?”
Grunt would be first to seek the door out of the room. The young Krogan was conflicted. He had seen Shepard’s brutal strength with his own eyes, not to mention her dedication to doing what she deemed was right. If he attempted to interfere, it could get seriously messy. Frustrated, the Krogan headed right for the elevator so he could get out of there, mostly so he could get back to the hold he called living quarters and beat anything that he couldn’t break. Which probably was very little. Throwing a temper tantrum wasn’t the goal but Grunt knew deep down that actually striking something would be more effective than yelling at empty air.
“A little time before we part ways? Maybe I can get Shepard to take me out shooting one last time. Or drop me off on Tuchanka so I can listen to the geezer... at least then if I get angry he’ll send me off to kill something...” Grunt slammed his head into the glass, not from anger, but from boredom and anticipation of Shepard’s sudden vanishing from his life. “What in the world will I kill now that Shepard is dismissing me? At least what can I kill to show her as a trophy.”
Grunt sat down and picked up his weapons. Miranda had repeatedly yelled at him and Jacob insisted that taking them from the armory was ‘unsafe’ but Grunt couldn’t give a crap. He fiddled with the shotgun and assault rifle in an attempt to sway his thoughts. Weapons, war, violence; anything but Shepard’s leaving. A thought came to him as he messed with his weapons. “I wonder if Shepard thinks I’m tunnel-visioned...?”
Grunt just sat there blankly for a few moments. Perhaps without Shepard he could learn a thing or two. Having a powerhouse like her he didn’t need to worry about ever covering her or such. Sure he was a good fighter but he was utterly useless in hindsight with any sort of tactical thought. “The geezer is going to kill me if Shepard tells him how useless I am.”
