Hey guys! We've got an important announcement to make, but first I want to give some context
At the end of last month, August 31st, our VPS host lost a node. This node contained our server, as well as several other severs, and when it was finally restored we had lost the entire thing. Because we hadn't planned on this happening, this meant that any of the data that was on the server which hadn't been recently backed up was now completely gone
Part of that data was the descriptions we had written for our comics. You may have noticed recently that the description links haven't been working for most of them- this is due to the data loss. As it stands, those descriptions will continue to not work, thanks to the changes we'll be making
So, what exactly are these changes? Well, to start with:
We now have a comics area located directly on our website!
What this means is that any and all comics we make will now be located there instead of being posted here. This does not mean that this blog is obsolete, however. From now on, comic updates in the form of thumbnail images will be posted, complete with links to the page they're on
While this may seem strange to most people, it's actually a move we're making based on data and accessibility related considerations. From a data standpoint, putting things in one area makes them easier to back up and restore, as well as easier to update or delete. From an accessibility standpoint, this means that those who need descriptions no longer have to click away in order to read them. While this does mean clicking away to view the entire comic, the comic itself and description are packaged together to reduce having to flip back and forth between pages or go out of one's way to read things. This is also closer to the experience of reading other webcomics with dedicated websites, where updates are posted to social media in the form of thumbnails or set images with small descriptions beneath
With all that said, if you'd like to take a look for yourself, you can check out the portal here:
There are still some things we're working on with it, namely back & forth buttons and more responsive comic layouts for mobile viewing, but the website itself is responsive and should work on both mobile and desktop
Thank you all for your patience and support, and we hope that you enjoy these changes moving forward 💜
