Just a reminder that Toon Beetlejuice is, above all other things, a funny guy. A jokester. A prankster. He's *funny*.
He makes Lydia laugh! He's a FUN-GI... er, fun guy. He shape-shifts constantly too, which is something a ton of people seem to leave out or forget about his whole deal when they're going for *super angst* or w/e instead of quality IC characterization (why).
He's a FUN character. We want to hang with Beetlejuice all the time as the audience! We all wish we were in Lydia's shoes. Zany adventures with the #1 one guide to the Neitherworld who has near-omnipotent powers? Sign us ALL up!
Also, uh, Doomie is a whole thing when you're writing these two. They made that car together, and Lydia loves Doomie. Don't forget about Doomie! And Ginger, and Jaques. And Beetlejuice's parents and family, whom Lydia has met and loves... this is getting specific, here, but Lydia would not abandon her Neitherworld family. In fact, she often has to reign Beetlejuice in when he absolutely 100% betrays all of these other characters in multiple episodes. He fed Ging to a damn Sandworm in one ep to save his own hide lmao (and, again, it was FUNNY!)
Anyway, Lydia simply wouldn't do it. That's not her, in any way shape or form. Sorry. That's bad writing (and a lazy attempt to tie it in with the movie), and an unfair portrayal of someone who is the most dedicated, loyal, sweet person on the show. You can write what you want, but I can also tell you it's ridiculous and fully OOC, and if you wanted this dynamic there's 100000 other shows out there with a better setup for this.
(PS - this is also why so many portrayals of the Joker absolutely fucking suck. It's because the writers themselves aren't funny, don't know how to BE funny because they're bad writers/nerds who read nothing but comic books & huff their own farts (looking at you, Scott Snyder, James Tynion, Frank Miller, Bruce Timm), but they want to wrench and bend the character to be as Angstridden and Grimdark as possible because that's what eternally 11 year old boys still think is cool)
