Their role was to drum up enthusiasm for Henry’s “rescue” so that the Fat Controller would be as well-disposed as possible towards Henry by the end of it all.
Yeah, it was all a massive, joint Mission: Restore Henry to Grace At Any Cost, All Else Be Hanged; We Love Him, Miss Him, and Even Those of Us Who Don’t Just Can’t Have This Disgrace Continue to Blight Our Railway Any Longer (needs a catchier name)
