i have been writing for the legend of zelda fandom since my childhood & the wind waker was my first zelda game, near and dear to my heart. i am not well-versed in the current lore & games beyond the core ones, however, i am currently playing through breath of the wild for the first time. i don't mind spoilers!

summary.
hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, & sings the tune without the words, & never stops at all. i’ve heard it in the chillest land, & on the strangest sea; yet, never, in extremity, it asked a crumb of me.
aryll is the younger sister of the hero of winds, a hylian girl of about six or seven years who lives with her elderly grandmother & older brother in the peaceful village of outset island. her parents died at sea, leaving her and link to their grandma's care. beloved by all who meet her, aryll is a kind child who helps her grandmother with household tasks such as fetching water & cooking her famous soup. she learns to write & read from the elder of the village, sturgeon, shares an uncommon affinity with seagulls, which show her uncharacteristic affection & loyalty, & even has a lookout named after her by the local islanders due to her constant gazing out to sea.
on link's birthday, they watched a giant bird pursued by fearsome pirates drop a young girl with pointed ears into the forest atop their isle. aryll pleaded with her brother to save the girl. as she was crossing the bridge to meet link after he succeeded in his endeavor, she was kidnapped by the helmaroc king after the bird failed to capture the pirate captain tetra & mistook aryll for the older hylian girl. it brought her to the forsaken fortress under the order of its master, ganondorf. aryll's rescue from this place was the initial catalyst to the burgeoning hero's mission.
aryll did not possess the triforce of wisdom that ganon sought. during her time in forsaken fortress, aryll made the acquaintance of two other girls from windfall island who had been kidnapped by the great bird, a rich debutante named mila & a poor beggar named maggie. though she was the youngest, aryll often mediated disagreements between the two girls, who each grew closer to each other facing the threats of the fortress together & attempted to present a united front despite their differences. mila learned to pick locks, maggie spun a romance with a moblin named moe, & aryll tended to her loyal flock of seagulls as always. she also came to learn more about the legions of monsters serving ganon & the workings of his dark magic.
link's first attempt to save aryll was shortsighted, & the boy was swiftly thwarted by the helmaroc king before he could reunite with his sister. link was tossed out to sea to meet his certain death at ganon's order, & aryll feared the worst for her brother.
his second attempt to save her proved his unfaltering courage. the siblings shared a tearful reunion. after she was rescued from the fortress by tetra's pirate crew, aryll spent months on the ship sailing back to outset island. she did chores for the crew using what she had learned from her grandma & earned a small allowance which she sent to link to aid in his quest. when she meets her brother again, she is wearing a pirate dress as opposed to her red amaryllis patterned one & waves from zuko's crow's nest, showing that she has adapted (perhaps too well) to life on the high seas.
aryll is left behind on outset island by her brother when he sets sail with tetra & her pirates to seek a new land to establish the new kingdom of hyrule & save the denizens of the great sea from their civilization's slow but sure decline. having already had a taste of adventure, aryll is not content to wait idly, sharing in her own travels on the great sea when she grows old enough to follow in her brother's footsteps.

the wind waker. this verse includes pre-game, aryll's time spent at forsaken fortress, plus the time following her rescue. after the events of the game, aryll stays on outset island with her grandma after link & tetra set sail for new lands. she can often be found with the sages, medli & makar, or solo voyaging when she is older.
breath of the wild. the little sister of princess zelda's appointed knight, link, aryll is the youngest daughter of another knight of hyrule. aryll approaches her life with boundless energy & optimism. she has a gentle way with the animals on their family's farmstead & is rarely seen without a cucco at her side.
