Anyone else feel like this is weirdly specific dialogue?
Why does Kris have a particular dislike for conspiracy boards?
I don't think this is meaningless considering we have not one but TWO lore relevant conspiracy boards. And they're both related to Asgore:
(WARNING: I have no idea how to structure this and I'm going all over the place, so be prepared for incomprehensible rambling, also i will not be answering the original question this post had, instead i will be speculating about Asgore)
Actually, what's the deal with Asgore in general?
Let's start at the beginning of Chapter 4:
What is Toriel talking about in this interaction?
We can't be fully sure what this "you know what" is exactly, but mostly by process of elimination, the most likely option is Asgore's OBSESSION, which would be his unsolved case.
The way Toriel mentions it would imply that Asgore's obsession with solving the case has become stronger as a result of Carol.
But is this something intentional? Is Carol purposefully fueling Asgore's delusions? Or is it something else?
Let's look at Asgore's secret dialogue in Noelle's house:
I think this dialogue would imply that Carol plays no part in fueling Asgore, but rather he's looking for clues in Carol's house behind her back. Why would Asgore need to "go look" for something if Carol was willing to give him an answer?
Actually, is Asgore's financial instability an intentional move from him?
I know it's in character for Asgore to give away flowers, but it's pretty hard to give flowers away on accident when you're on the brink of getting evicted.
We can now be fully certain that this letter is from Carol, seeing how "C" is the name of the soundtrack for Carol's first appearance.
What if Asgore's using their family bond as a bargaining chip so that Carol feels forced to offer him a job?
It's hard to believe Carol would be happy to do this considering how cold (hehe) her letter was, and how she generally just seems to dislike him, she was presumably the one who fired him from the police force to begin with.
Going back to Asgore's dialogue in Noelle's house:
There's a lot to unpack here.
First of all, is Asgore even supposed to be in this room?
Noelle says guests aren't allowed in Dess' room specifically but for Carol's room she just says it's locked.
Why does Carol even have a conspiracy board? I don't know why but to me it almost feels out of character for her, and if the board is hers i don't think Asgore would have access to it.
Even if Asgore was part of Carol's scheme (which i don't think is the case), I would asume Asgore would be kept very in the dark about it, I don't think Asgore would be okay with Toriel being kidnapped.
Unless Asgore brought his conspiracy board from home (which also seems stupid) there's a lot about this that doesn't sit right with me.
Second, why does he mention a black shard?
Black shards are different from Shadow Crystals, the latter become "glass" in the lightworld while the black shard remains the same.
There are two possibilities here, either Asgore's got a chip off of The Knight's sword, or he's talking about Carol's black katana which is also in the room.
Both of these options suggest that Asgore knows more about the Dark World than we anticipated.
Third, who is Asgore talking to here?
Unlike the bathroom scene where it's clear he's just talking to himself, in this scene he specifically addresses an "old friend".
My first thought was that he could be talking to a picture of someone, but it seems weird to talk to a small picture on a conspiracy board.
Another option is that he's talking to the conspiracy board itself, which would mean it's the same conspiracy board from his basement, which also seems weird.
But there's a secret third option which i haven't seen anyone talk about, probably because it's very silly.
Do you see it? Here, let me zoom in a little bit.
He's talking to the FUCKING PLANT!
We already know Asgore talks to plants, but now we have a reason as to WHY.
He KNOWS about the Dark Worlds, when he talks to his plants he's actively giving them life, and not only that he also gives them MISSIONS.
So what if Asgore's job as a gardener for Carol is actually a ploy to use her plants to SPY on her!
We already know from Tenna that this is possible, Tenna remembers everything from before the Darkworld, and Kris comunicates with him and gives him the mission of stalling for time from the Lightworld.
