It was nice, being able to sit back and relax before she decided to begin making arrangements for Waltfest and making sure everything was all set up and – well perfect for the people who were attending. She was lounging in a chair, her  coverup still on her body as she soaked in as much sun as she could. Her nose wrinkled when she heard people splashing around, something that would be inevitable for a pool party. She cleared her throat, sitting up slightly before she peered over her glasses. “If you could, please, be a bit more caferful, I would definitely appreciate it.” 

Right as Gus swam back to the surface after cannonball-diving into the water, he heard a voice coming from the side of the pool. He wasn’t sure if she was talking to him -- after all there were dozens of other people splashing around him, having an amazing time in Melody’s huge swimming pool. Swimming closer, looking up at the girl who was one of the only people lying in a lounge chair. “Are you talking to me?” Gus shouted, not sure if she was able to hear him over the  laughs and screams coming from the other guests.

Charlie: I did! I still wanted to be involved, but not be /in/ it, and apparently I've got a knack for yelling at people. I'm sure you'll find it again! You're stupid talented and you'll be back on top in no time.

Charlie: I really appreciate that.

Gus: It's good you went and looked for an alternative to being in the cast, then! It's always a good idea to broaden your horizon. Pssh, 'cause being able to yell at people is the most important trait a stage manager should have, right? 😋 That's so sweet 💗 I really hope you're right. I miss being at the top of my game.

Well, I was planning to get involved with the musical once we got back from Paris, but I actually ended up spending some extra time in the city of love after the field trip, so looks like I won’t be doing any Shrek things. I am, however, taking suggestions for plays (and musicals, I guess) to do for the high school in the Fall, since I’m kind of the only director we’ve got now! So yeah, lay it all on me.

“Aw, that’s too bad, little guy! My high school time is far gone, so this would’ve been the first opportunity to work with you. I’ve heard nothing but good things about your directing work. I totally understand why Paris left such a deep impression on you. I was born in the neighbourhood, and even though my childhood memories aren’t all that great, I’m still very fond of the place. I’m kind of sad I didn’t volunteer to come along on the trip, actually. Oh, there are so many out there Walt hasn’t done these past few years! Personally, I’m more of a musical guy, so I’d suggest Les Mis, Newsies, Mean Girls, heck, why not High School Musical? You saying ‘lay it all on me’ also made me think of Mamma Mia, you know, because Lay All Your Love on Me, and also because it’s been such a hot topic lately with the sequel! But maybe that’s more fit as a college production, I don’t know.”

Gus: The only thing I'm less excited about is that I've seen some actors literally perform on their knees to make themselves look shorter for the role... Guess I'll have to go to the gym more to build up knee strength so I don't literally break a leg on stage 🙃

Charlie jumped about a foot in the air when she heard someone talk, looking up from her spot on the ground as tears continued to roll down her cheeks, shaking her head and wiping at her eyes — desperately grasping for any kind of composure that she might still have inside of her. She didn’t like it when people saw her cry, because that wasn’t the person that she was. “No, I didn’t hurt myself. It’s nothing,” she managed out, but between the tears and the sobbing, she knew he wasn’t dumb enough to fall for it. She rested her head onto the gate and sucked in a sharp breath, pressing her trembling hands between her legs and digging her fingers into her leggings. “At least nothing you need to worry about.” Except part of it was something he needed to worry about. It was definitely something he should’ve worried about but she wasn’t gonna bother him with that. She didn’t need to. “I’ll be fine.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you,” Gus apologized quickly, realizing he had just walked up to Charlie without actually knowing ways to comfort her. He had hoped just being there for her was enough, but he was pretty sure it wasn’t. “I couldn’t just pretend nothing was going on and walk past you.” He let his hand rest on Charlie’s arm for a couple seconds as he tried to make eye contact with her. “I can tell it's more than nothing. And I know it’s none of my business what goes on in your life, Charlie -- but maybe everything you’re going through will feel a bit less heavy to carry around with you if you have someone, just anyone, to talk to. Believe me, I speak from experience.” Years ago Gus did nothing but bottling up his emotions and worries. Now he had learned there were better ways to deal with them. “I’m sure you will be, but still... You should know that you’re not wasting my time, you’re not bothering me with anything. I’d be happy to listen.”

“Not too well. I think I’d be way too busy to protect myself when I try to get my loved ones and literally everyone I care about to a safe place. And that would probably make me an easy victim.”

Senior year hasn’t been all it was cracked up to be, actually it was turning out to be something she hadn’t expected. Absolutely miserable. Being captain sucked, homecoming sucked, fighting with her boyfriend sucked, and with Tia’s leg being broken she didn’t even really have time to relax from all of the things because she was preoccupied with taking care of her. She went to the batting cages, hoping to try and blow off some steam by hitting some baseballs and imagining that they were just all of her problems that she was hitting away. And it would’ve helped, if she hadn’t kept missing. “God damn it!” she growled, tossing her bat across the cage and hitting the fence around her. The blonde moved out of the cage and let out a frustrated sound. She kicked the fence, not caring that her big toe hurt, and continued to do so until she wore herself out. She pressed her lips together and pressed the heels of her hand into her eyes and she let out a soft sob, shaking her head.

Gus wasn’t really the athletic type, but throughout his years in Walt he had discovered going to the batting cages was an activity he quite enjoyed. Especially on days when he had a lot going on in his head, like when his father tried to reach out again, but also on more ordinary ones like today. Gus had just finished a short session -- he was ready to go home to eat dinner with Levi. He walked back to the dressing rooms, when he heard noises coming from one of the cages nearby. Since he couldn’t just ignore it, he followed the sound to see what was going on. He didn’t expect to find a sobbing Charlie standing there, completely devastated. Charlie, who had been so bright and cheerful the last time he had seen her. Only seconds after seeing her Gus felt a wave of sadness coming over him. He didn’t know why this affected him so much, maybe it was because Charlie had grown on him while working together on all these musicals, or maybe it was just his paternal instinct kicking in -- the same instinct he got when he found little Tristan crying in his room back in France. The instinct his father had never owned. In that moment, Gus decided he wasn’t leaving the place until he fully made sure Charlie was alright. Levi could wait for just a little longer. “Charlie,” Gus spoke, as soon as he he approached her. “Wh -- what happened? Have you hurt yourself?”
