LIGHTHOUSE

In the book annihilation, part of the Southern Reach series by author Jeff Vandermeer; the protagonist (Biologist) struggles across a journey to a structure at center of an anomalous area of effect. in the novel, the Biologist grapples with conveying their perception of the structure. though descending into the earth as a tunnel, the Biologist insists it’s a “Tower” instead.

I think of this often, the mirror of a place co-opted by a disjoined Euclidean abominations.

I wish I were more excited about this pride month, but alas I am jaded; jaded because we have seen the soaring losses to our community in these past months alone. what at once I'd dreamed about- that full spectrum cacophony of colors and hope I now dread the approach of, for fear it will be tarnished with yet more brutality. I distain a pessimistic attitude, everything I do is to serve my queer siblings and that will not soon end; yet I can't shake the pit in my stomach or the venomous glances I know grow more scornful with each passing day. I regret the ways making fun of our most vulnerable has come into fashion again, the notion some queers are better than others... I detest it.

all this to say I'll pray each night for kindness, from the world yes but most of all from each other. this was all for you.

BACKROOMS 🪑

returned from the theatre briefly ago, lots to unpack but overall I was enthralled with the film. a delicate balancing act they toed to make the film people wanted; the fear of the unknown or a yet more primal fear of predator. The characters felt sure of themselves which made the decent more uncomfortable, warm bodies under unforgiving light; their struggles believable and hard to stomach. the sets were magnificent, a special attention to detail this film sported indeed, I enjoyed the references included, Everywhere at the End of Time, Saturn Devouring his Son... I thought these they were very tasteful- and I hope upon rewatch I will find yet more! I would highly recommend the film to those who already have background with the phenomena, some parts were not explained in certain terms which I can see confusing the average viewer, however for those who have kept up with the rooms I feel there's much to enjoy. I personally loved the film, and I look forward to re-watching it when it pops up on streaming.
