This kinda explains a lot about MK’s look, how, in retrospect, it looks stiff and kinda robotic. Technologically, it was p. amazing for its time, but there was always something a little, idk, “off” to me. Welp, this is why. It’s def. improved in later installments.

To elaborate: Look at Raiden’s hadouken-type move. Look at Kano’s throw, at Cage’s low-blow, at Sonia’s uppercut. They all have something in common, in that they all lack one thing: follow-through. Note how they come to a very noticeable stop, it’s very mechanical, there’s no natural flow. For example, Sonia’s fist shouldn’t just stop there, there should be a natural end to her arc. On the other hand, Liu Kang’s movements have a much more natural cycle to them.

There’s a great example of action arcs in an old Tom & Jerry character model that I’d add but I’m phoneposting and I don’t really have the time or want to spend the effort. It’s cool and insightful tho, cheggidout.
