Some original mocap footage used to animate the characters in the first Mortal Kombat game!
This kinda explains a lot about MKās look, how, in retrospect, it looks stiff and kinda robotic. Technologically, it was p. amazing for its time, but there was always something a little, idk, āoffā to me. Welp, this is why. Itās def. improved in later installments.
To elaborate: Look at Raidenās hadouken-type move. Look at Kanoās throw, at Cageās low-blow, at Soniaās uppercut. They all have something in common, in that they all lack one thing: follow-through. Note how they come to a very noticeable stop, itās very mechanical, thereās no natural flow. For example, Soniaās fist shouldnāt just stop there, there should be a natural end to her arc. On the other hand, Liu Kangās movements have a much more natural cycle to them.
Thereās a great example of action arcs in an old Tom & Jerry character model that Iād add but Iām phoneposting and I donāt really have the time or want to spend the effort. Itās cool and insightful tho, cheggidout.
