They knew exactly what they were doing btw. They just wanted to keep doing it because we are the only audience who praised their work and kept the fandom alive. They can tell we interprated the show the way we want as much as they want. They were indeed just ignorant , narrow minded , cruel people and horrible writers. They absolutely disserviced the theme of their show through their mindset and writing choices. As I understood , they just wanted to tell a self insert supernatural story which aciddently went mainstream. So they needed some themes and just started saying “outcasts” “sci fi” “coming of an age story”: They tried to find out what to do with every character every season and ended up reflecting their problematic mindset.
