omg im crying. theres people on twitter saying their moms watched the st finale and said how happy they were that mike and will got together. there's ga watchers out there thinking mike and will ended the story in love and in a relationship. there are ga watchers out there who thought mike gave el a pity goodbye kiss back since she was dying especially bc he didn't say it back. i love the world that some people live in who watch st and never touch the internet.

the way will's feelings for mike were never directly addressed? the way mike never found out about the painting? the way mike doesn't know will thought of the first time they met when he activated his powers? like what the actual fuck im going to kill myself

there was no "lets start a new party, you and me". there was no For Will tape thats been slapped on every piece of merchandise. there was no mysterious blanked out letter from October 6, 1983. there was no resolution to mikes relationship to his dnd persona to face his fears when holly had to deal with hers to see herself as a hero. there was no regrets that mike kept himself from making despite his whole season thesis statement of "i dont want any more regrets". there was no payoff for the painting and it only showed up in a glimpse on mikes dorm wall. not even a FRIENDSHIP "crazy together" callback as the party literally jumps into an interdimentional hell. there were shared looks and bumping elbows and brushes of the knee. mike being weird about will being a sorcerer. why was it so important that wills powers be innate? why was lucas giving mike mad side eye about it. it amounted to nothing at all. dick jokes and innuendos ON MIKES PART (not wills!).

and suddenly mike, who has been misunderstanding el for years atp is "the person who understands her best and always has". and had the most cringey over the top kiss to purple rain which has been tainted forever by the memory of it.

there's so, so much more i could name. im not even sad, it was just weird and confusing. i LOVED the first half! and uh. STRANGER THINGS have certainly happened! dafuq

will having feelings for mike was not necessary to the narrative. not every single queer person has had the universal experience of having a crush on their straight best friend, and quite frankly, i think it would have been more powerful to have will's self acceptance arc come from a place where he never had feelings for mike at all. but instead, they had will pining after his straight best friend for multiple seasons and then used will's pain to build up mike and el's crumbling relationship in s4 because the duffer brothers, for some odd reason, could not seem to keep that relationship going without using will's unrequited feelings (hint: it's bad writing) and still used will to comfort mike about el after he came out about his sexuality and his feelings in front of multiple people. and then, to add insult to injury, at the very end, they gave will an npc epilogue boyfriend who didn't have a single line when they could have easily introduced a new love interest for him in s4 while he was in california. i'm sorry, but i sincerely hope that the duffer brothers never write a queer character again.
