BIRTHDAY BOY ! | @spiederling

“Thanks Gwen!” The teen responds cheerily, an elated smile adorning his lips as he tentatively takes the girl’s hand in his. Soft brown gaze grows bashful as fingers interlace neatly, filling the spaces between them.

His tone grows quiet, and earnest; lips slipping into a small and genuine smile, “I— I do like surprises, and y’know you’re, you’re always my favorite surprise.”

Reaching a new level of giddiness as the joy bubbled in her chest, she guided him to the kitchen where she’d laid the spread. It looked like the room was prepped for a hundred person party, with stacks of pizza boxes, bowls filled with snacks, and liters of soda on the counter. 

“I didn’t know if you’d want cake or ice cream cake so I bought both! And then I saw cheesecake, and due to personal weakness, well, we have three cakes technically,” she admitted, with a soft giggle, “And we can invite people if you want.I just didn’t know who you wanted to spend today with.”

“Oh! And I also downloaded all those movies you like, Star Trek, Star Wars, and The Back to the Future Trilogy! But I hear only the first one is good,” she rambled, “You know? It’s your day, you choose what we watch.”

Cindy looked over at the blonde, eyebrows raised. “Come on, Gwen, you’re amazing!” the girl said, assuring the other of her worth. She chewed her lip, the feeling of unworthiness bubbling inside her.

“I honestly don’t think I’m good for you,” Cindy remarked, giving her friend a rueful smile.

“ the amazing spiderwoman,” she chuckled, “ i like the sound of that.”

gwen was no stranger to an inferiority complex, she had one of her own to deal with. resting a reassuring hand on cindy’s shoulder, she offered a small smile, “ i think we just need to learn how to be better at keeping each other safe. good intentions only get us so far.”
