Georgina, pictured above, is trapped in The Sunken Place.
Her body is being forced to smile and serve her masters (and speaking like she's from the 50's).
She is puppeted by her captors, while her consciousness is inside, helplessly imprisoned:
The metaphor of the Sunken Place has important context in Get Out that is specific to the Black experience:
But director Jordan Peele also spoke of how it can be more broadly applied:
Reminds me of Mr. Whatsit/Vecna.
To me, this could definitely be Conformitygate and Will's loss of agency: Vecna or the Mind Flayer are using him. Forced to come out in front of everyone, forced to minimize his love, unable to communicate to his friends that he's being controlled.
The scene the gif comes from also reminds me of Will's possession in S2. At one point, Chris says something that resonates with the trapped Georgina inside, and she briefly breaks through and sheds a tear before her possession continues:
Who's to say Will wasn't being possessed yet again in the coming out scene?
And speaking of voids.....
Looks similar to the ever-present Void in the show, which El was taught to navigate. Mike was also pushed into the Void in the finale, which the Duffers said was a hallucination (or a trance?) Not to mention the vein popping out of his forehead like Georgina being forced to do things she doesn't want to. Not to say it's the same thing, but her struggling face reminded me of him in that scene.
And I still think Nina is somehow connected to all this. Mind control, altered consciousness, the HNL Sleep Study....marginalized people being selected, trapped, manipulated....
