If you think your art blog is going to be deleted:
You can save all your posts with these instructions I’ll do it too just to be safe, I honestly don’t remember what I’ve posted here over the years.
You can also import a copy of your blog into wordpress. YMMV if you have a huge amount of posts.
Oh thanks!! This is also a good one!! In case the first doesn’t work or you don’t have the memory for a whole zip of your blog~
From someone who’s survived MySpace, livejournal, deviantart, and fanfiction.nets’ content purges and bad policy updates, here’s some advice on how to get through tumblr’s recent bullshit:
- don’t knee jerk delete. I know it’s tempting to peace out immediately but hang on and do the other steps first. Out right ghosting and erasing everything is how fandoms die.
- archive everything on your blog you want to keep
- tell your followers how they can archive and keep your work too. A lot of fic and art were only saved from ff.net and lj because other people saved it first. If you’re cool with other people saving your work for them to personally keep, let them know this. You can absolutely discourage reposting but I really do highly recommend you allow people to personally save fic and art they like and are worried will disappear forever. Digital Dark Ages are a real thing.
- tell people where you’re jumping ship to. Give links. Keep that info up, even if you’ve left the site.
- go through who you follow and find out where else you can follow them. Save their work if they’ll allow it. It’s tedious as hell but if you want to keep up with people on here clicking on their page to check in is the best way to do it.
- support places like ao3. This is exactly why ao3 asks for donations a few times a year. They are a 100% anti-purging, judgement free, ad free non profit run by an elected board and protected by lawyers. Places like ao3 literally save fandom so please continue to support them and other similar archives. This is exactly why ao3 is so important.
For example, here’s a post that explains and links for how to back up your blog
Also, go read the source policies and official Tumblr statements in addition to user analyses and reactions. It’s important to keep abreast of developments over time; staying informed is your power in this situation. Memes and reaction posts are funny and are a useful way to vent / provide commentary, but some of them create an inaccurate picture of what’s happening and should not be taken as evidence on their own of what developments have happened.
Last day to come it to SF comic con and see @amandamullins and I at our booth (#625) in the exhibitor hall by the celebrity photo ops. Mention this post to get an extra free button if your choice with any purchase!

Trying to get back into form figure drawing a bit, using a mix of Posemaniacs and the Draw This Friday evening figure drawing streams. Rusty but starting to feel a little better about where I’m back at.
From tonight’s stream, 3 studies of Staubbach Waterfall in Switzerland and the cool little town around it. The feeling on them was perfect for what I’m looking to capture with my Tiny Witches project. Thanks @icysketchbook for popping in and chatting with me so I wasn’t just an old man yelling at the clouds.

Happy birthday to my good friend Med~
Super quick sketch before bed cause work leaves me the 0 free time right now.
Sketchy af Deedlit I rocked out the other night when I wanted to see if I could get anything cracked out in the like 15m I gave myself before having to go to bed. Then ended up spending like another 15m cause it was fun.

Some sketching from D&D night, sketching a shot out of BDO character creator that had been kicking around in my head informing my original vision for my bard Courtney’s design, and trying to note down a design I saw at Renfaire over the weekend that might be helpful to a friend’s awesome halloween costume.
Fully intend to take bard back to a young heavier dark skinned woman from the kind of “default” pretty white girl idea. Love the cool art my friends in the game made me before getting to flesh out her design more myself.
For the human hours crowd.

Sketching a random photo of someone wandering around in god knows where in presumably costume. Looks like a candid shot of someone born 200 years too early to be in Cowboy Bebop and I’ve wanted to draw the guy for ages.
Finally got my Cintiq 24hd in working order. I’ve wanted a Cintiq for like 14 years now??? So amazingly pumped to finally have one. I’ve been doing a lot of actual people work lately. Over the summer I was a lead instructor at a summer camp in the San Jose area teaching video game design and a bit of graphic design for web stuff. More recently I’ve been working doing merchandising for ye olde big box electronics retailer. My lovely wife Caity has long since been back at work teaching high school which has the unfortunate ramification that I only get to see her on weekends pretty much now as she’s not staying at our apartment and is instead primarily at the house we own. But we make it work.
So the top image is studying some of the way that my old friend from Art Center Bryan Lee paints and draws portraiture. We have a ton of shared interest artistically and I love the results he’s been getting from years of daily timed portrait paintings and the way he designs his shapes and blending of some classic illustrators approaches to get really concise images. Definitely look at his shit and see all the stuff I’m trying to pick apart and see how he’s thinking about stuff so I can find out if those questions will be relevent to my own art process.
Next up sketching a neat coat thing off google images. Not much going into it, wanted to find some costuming stuff and study it before bed. I’m working on a more in depth illustration with a bunch of friends as Harry Potter characters for a birthday gift to them/all of us and commemoration of us all going down to Wizarding World for the 30th birthday extravaganza of one of those friends. More to come on that as it develops
Playing some D&D5e with friends online and finally sketched my bard a bit in our Catfolk disguises to start off our recent main story quest stuff. The game is comprised of all artists and our campaign often deteriorates into us shitposting on discord and drawing goofy shit. But it’s lovely.
I know I’ve not gotten into the stuff from GDC decompression and I might have a decent chunk of art I haven’t gotten up here yet, not sure this last few months have been really busy and I’ve not had as much time to do things as I’d have liked, definitely haven’t been on the daily drawing train for a while and hoping to get that cleaned back up a lot. Also it’s been more than a year since my much delayed honeymoon in Cancun now and that’s tripping me out.
