Is she even holding the bars????
She’s using momentum to keep her hands on/close to the bars - this photo caught her shifting her hands, which has to happen in every circling element. The hands don’t actually rotate around the bar at the same time as or speed as the rest of the body - the gymnast has to shift/rotate her hands herself during the element. Watch a gymnast’s hands really closely during circling elements and you’ll notice that the hands are not constantly moving around the bar like the body does - they stay in the same place for about the first half of the element, then the gymnasts shifts them to the other side of the bar. Usually that doesn’t result in as obvious of a space between the hands and the bar like in this photo, but Nastia is in el grip here, and you have a much less secure grip on the bar with not as much hand/palm surface available, so that’s why her hands are coming off a bit. She’s about to regrab with more force.
