something's up

one week and it's back to the jet life. headed farther west to home. i get to see my mother, brother, and oldest friends & family. there will be palm trees, fruity chinese bakery cake, fish tacos, traffic, frozen yogurt, and animal-style fries. the weather forecast calls for sunny skies and 80º temperatures. oh how i've missed the bustling shire from whence i came!

rodeo weekend - the portrait of a town partying. the hermit in me can't help but seek out some alone time after "day drinking".

i have to put that in quotes because i feel like that's something i've heard more recently. is it a wyoming thing? a reference to something? i didn't think drinking needed a time frame.

i'm up on the balcony of my aunt's building, living out the fantasy of owning a covered outdoor vantage point on which i could bury my face in my laptop or sketchbook without always feeling guilty about missing out on the world. not really feeling rodeo this year. at least today anyways. tomorrow's another day.

laramie II

tennessee honey jack + root beer = the honey badger. start nursing that at 11 AM until nightfall on independence day and a rash of dark dreaming will ensue. dreams that include france, germany, and, the destination i have my sights on next, northern africa. thanks america. i'm at least looking forward to skipping town this weekend to make a cameo down in colorado springs - derby reasons, comme toujours. we're staying with a friend who has a pool which i've been needing so badly this summer. i haven't found any pooltime since turkey. problems yo. wonder if there'll be any fire sightings. i'll post a little of the weekend's travels if there's anything worth a few pictures.

still going through stubs, brochures, and other particles of turkey and sobbing quietly to myself amidst that. i'm eating raw tomatoes, jack cheese, and hunks of french bread out of nostalgia. every day i become less in love with the small town, and crave more alone time. i miss all the great cities i have once called home, and the unfamiliar faces, streets, and opportunities that come to life when instead of right you take a left. i miss getting lost in new neighborhoods and navigating through a maze of boulevards and alleys back to familiar territory, or deciding which method of public transportation could get me home. i miss shucking the language barrier to the best of my abilities.

i know very well that laramie doesn't have to be forever, it's just that once a great adventure gives way to the monotony i thought i left to the past, it's hard to see clearly what the future might promise.

first intaglio in a long time. there's an old aquatint i unknowingly etched over, but this gave me an idea for my next set of prints.

with the june solstice soon upon us, it is the beginning of the end of summer in laramie. crunch time. lately i've been fishing through the cluster of memories loaded up on the hard drive for source material while searching my soul for the feelings forged abroad and carry with me now. these two here are the starting point of a lot of response work i'll be making since avoiding my social life is part of my don't-spend-money-you-don't-have-on-shitty-pbr plan. i need that money for...supplies - both technical and mind-altering - because i've come to conclude that life's too short to work on janky-ass paper. unless, of course, that paper happens to be a cafe napkin subjected to the joyous erotic scrawlings of a few art students with more than a few efes darks in the tank.
