itâs cold out, you think sitting wrapped up tightly in slytherin cloak, sleepy eyes half-hidden by soft locks. you watch the great lake and woods through the astronomy tower, steadily turning numb from the cold. the sun has risen, casting the sky in pale pinks and yellows, but you have been awake for hours already. youâve been here for hours already.
belonging to slytherin as a half-blood wizard isnât always easy. but the wizarding world and hogwarts have been your home for six years already. the idea of turning your back on it, could never sit right with you. heading into your seventh and final year of hogwarts knowing what world awaits you after graduation, you know exactly what you must do. and you canât hide out in this tower to achieve anything.
you fumble into your coat and trip down the narrow flights of stairs into the castle. itâs early november and the wind is unforgiving, slicing through your layers and skin. you duck your head against it, against the tears pricking at your eyes, and walk towards the pitch.
you never really understood quidditch. you had passed your first year's flying classes, but had never gotten into the sport. you had never been a sports-kinda-person, not even when you lived in the muggle world. you would have never thought that the wizarding world included sports. the first time you had heard of quidditch, you thought it was some kind of spell or a name of one of the halls. during the first game you went to, you could barely keep up with what was happening. now, after spending six years in hogwarts, you still had some hard time trying to understand everything that happened in one single match. one moment you would be looking at the keeper near the rings, then the beaters would swoon in, the chasers were going around and around, and suddenly the seeker had the snitch and the game was over.
this day, however, yeonjun was in the slytherin quidditch team. he had been part of the team since his second year, and now that slytherin is going against gryffindor with beomgyu being in the line-up, you found yourself sitting next to your friends.
another slytherin walking past you, hands you a banner to hold during the game. you grumble, but youâre happy to support yeonjun, chaser for the slytherin team, and maybe just a tiny bit youâre excited for the gryffindor boy, the seekerâand a good one at that.
a whistle is heard and the game starts.
theyâve been fairly even for the entire game, but you find yourself wishing someone would just catch the snitch already.
âgo, beomgyu!â screeches taehyun little further down the stands, waving his gryffindor banner in the air.
you tend to stay neutral in these cases, not wanting to upset either side, since you know half of your friends are a part of gryffindor and youâre kind of obligated to cheer for them too.
when the cheers becomes louder, you turn to see yeonjun swerve past the gryffindor player, position himself comfortably and send the quaffle flying through one of the hoops.
âyeonjun scores!â the voice of the announcer rings out across the pitch. âten points to slytherin, now at seventy to sixty.â
the crowd was growing nervous, not knowing how it would end. the stands erruped in cheers when both seekers zoomed in, having caught sight of the snitch. while the slytherin seeker raced through the place trying to catch the small golden ball, the dark haired gryffindor turned and swooped back across the pitch, beomgyuâs gaze catching yours. eyes all bright even though his cheeks are pink with the cold. âiâll catch it for you, y/n y/l/n!â he yells, throwing you an exaggerated wink before you let out a groan and try to disappear inside your coat.
beside you, soobin scoffs. âcatch the snitch for your own house at least!â he shouts at beomgyu pouting.
âslytherin will loseâ you say, blush of roses, that peek of champagne pink. the colour infused cheeks dimpled with the blossoming smile and eyes shining in a way that only deep happiness can bring.
âare you alright?â you look up, blinking. soobin is close to you, peering.
âyeah, just thinking if quidditch makes beomgyuâs ego even bigger.â you rub the back of your neck, trying to joke.
soobin nods with a knowing look and sets his attention back to the game.
beomgyu swoops and swirls and passes, slytherin slowly taking the lead, while beomgyu appears to make it his personal mission to play with gryffindorâs inexperienced seeker and well, you.
he flies by you pointing before grinning and grinning.
you watch beomgyu anyway, listening to the announcer steadily increase the score as neither seekers catch sight of the snitch. you think your nose is about to fall off, wishing you were sitting next to the fireplace instead, and youâd probably skip out of the game if you didnât know that beomgyu would be upset.
as if on cue, the stands cheer again and you look up to see beomgyu zooming off with the golden snitch grasped between his fingers, his mouth stretched into a full grin.
gryffindor wins the game, thanks to a spectacular snitch catch.
beomgyuâs smile was one of happiness growing, much as a spring flower opens. you could see how it came from deep inside to light his eyes and spread into every part of him. a person smiles with more than their mouth, and you heard it in his voice, as he shouted happily and the way he relaxed. it was beautiful.Â
you couldnât help, but let your lips stretch into a tiny grin.
âi think you care for him a lot more than you let onâ soobin elbows you in the ribs, his voice low.
how could you not, beongyu was the kind of bonny teddy bear, in gentle brown hues, that childhood dreams of night and day are made from. his smile as an offered cup to hold-safe childish emotions whatever they may be. in his eyes was warmth, ever a sparkle in their loving-black.
after, theyâre all heading back to the castle, or the party that would be taking place in the gryffindor common room. gryffindors screams so loudly that you worry theyâll hurt their throats, the rest of the slytherins groan in defeat. yet, everyone still congratulates each other, knowing that quidditch rivalries only stay on the pitch.
beomgyu catches up with you, hair wet after the shower. you silently hope he wonât catch a cold in this freezing november air.
and maybe itâs because, deep down, you do care for beomgyu more than you let on. maybe youâre soft for him, maybe you do like all of the attentionâbut just a little.
youâre extraordinary good at hiding it.
beomgyuâs wearing round, gold-framed glasses, which makes him look older and gentler, even as his mouth curves into a dark smirk.
âgood game,â you greet and pause, before reaching and ruffling his hair, âbut weâll get you the next game.â
âdid you see me catch the snitch for you?â thereâs something playful and predatory about the way he says it. you swallows despite yourself and the waves of light annoyance rising to surface within you.Â
you sigh withdrawing your hand and pick up the pace.
âhey!â he shouts after your, âwhere are you rushing?â
âitâs coldâ you whine, still giggling as beomgyu catches up with you and knocks your shoulders together. you like to think beomgyu knows anywayâhow proud of him you are, even if you arenât very good at saying it all of the time.
âhey,â he began, inching a little closer to you âdo you want my scarf?âÂ
you turned to look at him, eyeing his neck. you looked like, for a second, you were considering it.
âno,â you finally told him. âi donât think wearing gryffindorâs scarf after losing to you is the best idea. plus, you need it more than i do.â
âwhat do you mean?â hisvoice cracked slightly from the cold air rushing into his mouth. âi have a full coat with cloak under it.â
âand your wet hair is literally freezing.â
âso that, i donât want the whole gryffindor house hate me for making the seeker sick.â
beomgyu turns back to you, whose smirk has since widened. âalright,â he says and grabs your hand, before making a mad dash.
you canât help laughing as you tighten your hold on beomgyuâs hand, letting him tug you out of the pitch and back onto the grounds of hogwarts, heading home.
when you make your way into the dorm, both of you squeeze past the crowds of students celebrating in the common room.Â
magic is already running wild. glasses refilling themselves, stains magically disappearing from the sofas and floor, patronuses running around, snacks flying around and music blasting from nothingness. youâre pretty sure, you just saw a slytherin blow up something too.
beomgyuâs hand slips and loosely grips your wrist tugging you towards the centre of the room, where you can spot the other four familiar heads.
when you drop down onto the sofa, beomgyuâs touch is gone, but not for long, his body flops close to yours, your thighs slightly touching.
âbeomgyu, our hero!â someone yells from the crowd and another gryffindor slaps beomgyuâs shoulders from the back, making his mouth break into a huge smile.
âit wouldnât have happened if it wasnât for my princess!â beomgyu shouts smirking. you startle, not expecting the sudden attention from the crowd
to make matters worse, beomgyu throws his arm over your shoulder from behind, cuddling your head. and you furiously blushing pick up a stray textbook at your feet before whacking him with it.Â
âw-what?â asks beomgyu, rubbing at his head as he glances at you, all pride and smug. his hair is sticking up funny. you try not to think of it as cute.
you turn your back to face him, âstop telling everyone you caught the snitch for me!â you pause shrugging his arm from your shoulder, âand stop touching me!â
the other four boys dissolve into giggles. you blink at beomgyu, know that heâs trying to appear nonchalant about it; in reality, he looks all sorts of upset, although he gives another cheerful response and the crowd cheers again.
the rest of the evening is spent doing magic spells, drinking mixed drinks, sitting around in the common room talking about whatever.
âoh, yeah! i almost forgot.â beomgyu hops off of the sofa you were sitting on, and takes out his wand.
âi wonder what he prepared this timeâ yeonjun muses, âremember the last time he charmed y/nâs favorite snack.â
you roll your eyes at him, but deep down wondering what did beomgyu come up with now.
you are prepared to hear something like a song or a poem confessing his love to you. since youâre inside the castle, he cannot do anything too grand.
and then a familiar voice rings out in the common room into a song, as the fireworks starts to explode, loud and bright and loud, silencing everyone else as the fireworks breaks into a chaos. thereâs something about them that warms you, as if their stray sparks passed into your blood.
then, as if it the sparks hold pencils of pure light, in the air a portrait of yours magically starts to appear.
âyouâre the light in my dark life, y/n!â beomgyu shouts over the loud sparkly fire, âthe thoughts of you sparks fireworks inside my blood.â
âw-what theâŠâ you mutter painfully.
when the specks of light flutters down to the ground, the gryffindorâs common room is once again, deathly silent.
for a long moment, you just stares at the empty space where the fireworks were. youâre not entirely sure how to deal with this, at least until you turns to look over at the centre and see that beomgyu is standing right in the middle of it, holding a rose.
you open your mouthâyou suddenly come up with a hell of a lot of things to say about this.
yet, with a flick of your wand, you set the rose on fire, making sure it wonât cause actual injuries to the boy.
thereâs a gasp from the boy in front you, but you calmly get up and exit the gryffindorâs room.
you accidentally rip the plastic cup you were holding, letting out a curse as you do so.
later, you enter your room, you try to ignore the weird pounding of your heart. with another huff, you collapse onto the softness bed.
by the time beomgyu makes another few attempts on confessing his undying feelings for you, the christmas comes around.Â
snow comes sweeping in on a storm and turns everything white white white.Â
hogsmeade and the castle gets covered in an obscene amount of fairy lights.
you stand out in the softness of snow until your face goes numb, that day you like the bite of the wind in your lungs.
shrugging the snowflakes of your clothes, you make your way towards the great hall. itâs a lot more quiet than usually, only dozen of students staying in hogwarts to spend the holidays.
âhi,â you greet, gaze meeting beomgyuâs across the table - his eyes are gentle and dark as a winter night, âmind if i sit here, slytherinâs table is kind of empty.â
the gryffindor pretends to think, âa princess should never ask for a permission to sit.â beomgyu says at last, smiling at you. soft.
for a few moments, thereâs silence except for the clicks of beomgyuâs keyboard. you watch him game. watch his sharp and focused gaze as he concentrates. beomgyu was a pure-blood wizard, yet couldnât say no to muggle video games. you hum quietly to yourself and close your eyes soaking up the sharp gaze from his, which is a contrast of beomgyuâs usual soft glance.
you donât know how much time have passed, but thereâs someoneâs shifting around you. lazily you open your eyes, watching beomgyu sit up straighter, leaning forward so that he can press his fingers to the back of your head.
âiâm up,â you mumble, still mostly asleep, âiâm up.â
beomgyu stifles a smile, and gently moves the strand of your hair. his eyes are crinkled at the corners from his smile.
winter sunlight is pouring through the colourful windows, the christmas tree stretching its branches towards the ceiling like itâs still in a forest.
your heart aches a little as you take a longer glance at beomgyuâs eyes, thereâs specks of something heavy. but you keep that thought to yourself, know that he will talk to you, at least more than heâs likely to talk to the others.
âwant to walk somewhere?â you ask instead, lifting your head from the wooden table to look up at him as though seeking permission to agree. beomgyu makes a noise of agreement.
âi know a placeâ you say and watch the boyâs lips curl back into a hazy grin.
for the first time, beomgyu is forced to follow you, and surely you donât complain as his warm hands rest against yours.
without people watching your every move, you donât feel afraid to hold his hand.
and beomgy is sweet. heâs not the aloof, hot gryffindor seeker that everyone expects him to be. and the thought of him being like this with you, makes your heart clench. makes you feel loved, makes all of the bickering worth it, in the end.
your body relaxes as you step into the firenze's indoor forest, the classroom eleven. a classroom located down the corridor leading off the entrance hall on the side opposite the great hall. this is one of several unused classrooms on the ground floor.
âyouâre being very slytherin right now,â beomgyu speaks up glancing around. the dark shapes of desks and chairs were piled against the walls, the floor had become springily mossy and trees were growing out of it; their leafy branches fanned across the ceiling and windows, so that the room was full of slanting shafts of soft, dappled, green light.
âwait till you see this,â you chuckle and mumble something under your breath.Â
beomgyu stares as the lights lower and a starry sky appears.
both of you sit down on the earthy floor with your backs resting against tree trunks. your arms wrapped around your knees, while beomgyuâs folded tightly across his chest.
âi always wonder how many rooms we havenât explored inside this castle,â beomgyu speaks up quietly, âi always thought the view from astronomy tower is the best one, yetâŠâ he pauses, his gaze shooting towards the ceiling, âyet, something as beautiful as this exists.â
âi think we just get used to the view we always see,â you shrug, smiling a little.
âdo you spend a lot of time here?â he wonders loudly, his eyes twinkling with little stars inside of it.
âi had to find a place to hide from you,â you answer, playfully brushing your shoulders against his, âsometimes from others too.â
you watch beomgyu, see the gryffindorâs lips quirk up into a half-hearted smile.Â
then itâs silent, you donât count the minutes as they pass, just stares out at the greens around.
âare you not going back home?âÂ
beomgyu turns to look at you for the first time since youâve sat down. his gaze caught somewhere between irritation and exhaustion, the usual aloofness and confidence under the cover of magic and privacy, itâs all been wiped away. you frown as beomgyu attempts a reassuring smile.
âi wonât,â you reply with a shrug, âsomethingâs changed that made my parents work, so thereâs no use of going.â
beomgyu hums, heâs watching you with darkness in his eyes. and then he turns back looking into nothingness.
a pause. then, âso you decided to spend that time with me?â he says with a faint smirk and rakes a hand through his hair.
âi know you get lonely and homesick when no oneâs around,â you  comment gently.
âhowâd you know?â asks beomgyu.
with a nod, you admit âi pay more attention to you than you think.â and poke him in the shoulder with your finger.
itâs impossible to tell what heâs thinking as he turns his head your way watching his hair catch the light from the starry sky.
the moonlight makes him look a little more ethereal, maybe. more magical than he already is.
âi hate feeling like that, it makes me feel childish,â beomgyu sniffs a little, wiping at his eyes.
your heart clenches at the hurting boy, steadily you reach your hand fall and thread your fingers together.
âyou are childish,â you insist and gently squeeze his hand in your own, âand thatâs what makes you soâŠyou.â the quiet whisper is almost hidden by your reassuring smile.
beomgyu senses you shifting, but he startles when you tug him over until beomgyu ends up leaning against you, head against your shoulder.
âitâs okay to miss people,â you say quietly, curling your hand into beomgyuâs hair, gentle and soothing, when you hear him sniff, âin this place, our home, thereâs all the love you need.â
âi miss everyone and i know itâs been just a week,â turns his face into your shoulder, arms suddenly curling around you. thereâs a hand fisted into the shirt of your stomach, holding on so, so tightly. you kissed the top of beomgyuâs head, hand still caught in his hair.
âi missed you too, gyu.
the gryffindor pulls away just as quickly as he latched onto you, head coming up so suddenly that he missed your nose by chance.
you glance at him, your hand falling to your side at the almost angry look on beomgyuâs face.
âstop doing that,â he says, gesturing around, âwhenever i try to ask you on a date you get angry and reject me, but when weâre alone, youâre allâŠthisâ beomgyu huffs, his hands motioning around with frustration, âi donât know what you want from me.â he finishes, his chest rising fast-paced.
âdonât be angry at me,â you reply, eyebrows furrowed, âyouâre the one charming my snacks, announcing catching the snitch for me and giving me a firework show,â you pause and push yourself up, âyouâre the one going around with an ego bigger than the everest.â your voice is steel as you finish and the silence creeps in.
âi donât have an ego with the size of the everest, but maybe if iâll look confident, it wonât sting as much,â beomgyuâs voice has started to go a little hoarse, his eyes hurt.
âgyu,â you begin gently. âi donât need all of those grand gestures. you know, iâŠâ you stop, turning your gaze down to the ground. youâve never been good with feelings. âyou donât realise how much i like you, but all loud and public stuff you do, leaves me embarrassed and wanting to hide.â
beomgyu stands with a far-away look, a haunted grimace on his face. but something in the atmosphere shifts. it becomes lighter.
âi like you,â you whisper, still afraid to look at the boy in front of you, âi enjoy your attention, just try doing it lessâŠpublicly.â
âlike hereâŠ?â beomgyu asks and waits.
you roll your head to peer at him.
âlike here.â you agree, and beomgyu looks up at you with that familiar lazy grin.
the gryffindor takes a step towards and wrap his arm around your waist. and together youâll breathe into the quiet of the room.
âi really like you, â beomgyu smirks, âif you havenât noticed it before.â
you laugh, this playfully light sound that makes beomgyuâs blood ignite.
âi think i like you too.â
as you breathe out, you seems to melt into his hands, letting your head resting against his chest. beomgyuâs lips breaks into a smile.
your arms arms draped over beomgyuâs shoulders and his hand cupping the back of your head like something out of a novel cover. his fingers drag through your hair and beomgyuâs lips press warm and perfect against yours.
his lips are cool and slightly chapped against yours.
when you start to pull away, he hands cup your face, pulling you back in, and then beomgyu is kissing you properly and all you can feel is warmth, in your heart, your blood, the gentle slide of beomgyuâs tongue into your mouth.Â
when you pull apart, thereâs is no going back now, you realise.
âwill you be my girlfriend?â beomgyu asks, his fingers fan against your face.
âi think you should try a little harder,â you reply into the silver quiet of the room, âi still have standards.â
beomgyu snorts, but his yes are soft soft soft as he shifts forward and presses your foreheads together, winds steadying arms around your waist.
then settles for pressing his forehead to your temple and letting your magic intertwine until it quiets the storm inside of both of you.Â
