Does anyone remember those art trends where different fandom artists would draw their version of a character and everyone would draw and add theirs on in a big group line up? I remember there being one for Riku and was curious if anyone would be down to join in on a Chris or Re themed one 🙏

If you dont mind me asking, what brush do you use?

Generally, I alternate between three different brushes. I use a specific one for sketching, and depending on the level of neatness and detail in the piece, I’ll use one of two pens to line and ink it. For sketches, I stick to this one because it’s very buttery (only way I can describe it. It has a smooth and lightly transparent nature to it that makes it wonderful to build up darkness in a sketch, and when using, it’s good to clean the edges with. I’ve had people compliment my sketch layer thinking it was a lineart layer before, so I highly recommend a good brush with the transparency effect. It’s helped me finish pieces by skipping the lineart step entirely and jump right into colouring or detailing with black and white shades. I couldn’t find the original brush I downloaded off the Clip Asset Store, so I looked around for a dupe and recommend this one.

For this pen, it’s very smooth like butter to use but not in the literal sense— the thing that makes me love this pen is the texture. It’s very crunchy, but when inking and lining, it looks smooth from afar. It itches brain in a way that’s hard to explain and I found I can ink and line pieces super fast with this brush because the application is so smooth and quick and feels neat and tidy each time. It’s so nice to carve out thinner shapes from blocked in ink parts (very useful for hair!) and amazing to sharpen finer details. Unfortunately, it’s been deleted, but I did look around for a replacement/dupe in case anyone wanted a brush with a similar feel and texture!

I adore this pen but I have noticed it can be stiff when the stability is cranked high (needed for the tidy lines I fear). Lineart with it tends to be slow but worth it and it’s also fun to ink first and carve out hair shapes afterwards. The taper is the shining star of this brush, I haven’t found one like it that I enjoy so it’s become my ol reliable to go to especially for emoji sets.

urgent help!

as you guys know my grandparents got scammed months ago, some man told them he was going to send them medical equipment they needed for $500 dollars, we were desperate, not only they lost all the money they had, my grandpa has gotten significantly worse, he's starting to lose vision in his good eye and my grandma is losing mobility as well (evidence), I know I sound annoying always coming here and begging for money for my grandparents and for my college, I don't know how to anticipate the grief, losing my grandpa everyday to his illness, losing my college education cause I can't afford it, in México the situation it's just getting worse and even though I feel lonely I have found a community here and I'm forever grateful for that, even a dollar goes a long way and all the money will go to their medical needs since I'm very sure I won't be able to cover college expenses, please share and donate if you can, you can help via p*ypal or any way you want through ko-fi, here's the link! 💕 thank you sm

Hi! Your art is so pleasing to look at, and I was wondering how you got so good at digital art? Do you have any tips for beginners or people looking to get better at it? I'm trying to, but it's rough, and I don't really understand how to shade or color well enough on there. But I hope to be as good as you one day! <3

First off, thank you for the super kind words, you’re a very sweet soul and though this is a very late response, it made me smile! To answer though, I’ve been drawing on and off since 2015/16, and it’s always helped to just draw and fixate on things that make me happy. It can be tough, but as long as you stick with it without forcing yourself and over exerting, it will pay off. I ended up drawing a bunch of characters I really adored a lot and found it also helped to draw with other people collaboratively through art ask blogs, so I would recommend art trades among friends! In my experience, it helped to draw and create when I felt like I was making it for someone else and I could cling to the excitement of making a new piece.

I want you to know that it can get tough and you may not feel like you’re improving, but to keep in mind you don’t always see the progress you gain until you look back on it, just try not to be harsh with yourself for not creating Mona Lisa’s with each piece you make.

I am with you on shading and colouring being tricky, and though I don’t have the best advice in that department, I would like to direct you to Angel Ganev’s art YouTube here where he gives super useful colouring advice in a very easy to digest and understand way. I usually get confused following other tutorials but he explains things in a way that makes sense and isn’t as intimidating.

Definitely also play with a lot of brushes, find ones that feel right and easy to use, I don’t know how to word it but it’ll feel natural and effortless to doodle and line or ink. New brushes can also inspire new art pieces so it just helps to play around and experiment using different ones too. A good brush can also help shape your artstyle through said experimentation!

Lastly, please don’t be afraid to reference or make use of 3d models for posing or perspective with your pieces. Ultimately, it can most definitely help with understanding over time how they work and how anatomy changes with the pose and view, so utilize it especially if you draw on clip studio paint. I know this isn’t much but I hope it helps somewhat! Be kind to yourself and remember you are still learning, same as everyone else. You create because you enjoy it and have ideas you want to share and express.
