This week-end in Den Haag
One thing you want to check this week-end :
We have the "Dag van de architectuur" held on Saturday and Sunday. It's a national event that will give you the opportunity to visit various buildings around town for free. Considering the quite unique mix of architecture we can find here, it should be interesting!
The theme this year is "Architecture and Food", so in addition to discovering the architects work, you'll be able to enjoy some of the culinary speciality of the city.
Two routes will allow travellers to experience the city with the accent on food. You can pay a visit to Foodscape Schilderswijk and the Pander complex, two locations which bring food and the city closer to each other.
In addition, you can go on a 'hunt' with designer Jan Konings or a boat ride with urban planners Mathilde Peen and Roos Berendsen to discover how food was brought into the city by boat.
The Foodscape Schilderswijk and the Pander complex are two interesting projects, where architects and artists installed various foodscapes (herb lawns, fruit trees, berry bushes...) in a neighbourhood.
Thus the fun of communal gardening, maintenance and cooking, is combined in an informal way with urban agriculture and the collective upkeep of public space. The active participation of the locals transforms the neighborhood into a wonderful place, where people can harvest tasty and fresh food.
Visits at 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00 for Foodscape Schilderswijk and from 11:00 to 16:00 for the Pander complex.
In addition to thoses food-oriented visits, you'll be able to discover the following places :
› Hilton Hotel The Hague, Zeestraat 35 › Raad van State (accessible only with a tour), Kneterdijk 22 › Haagse Architecten Markt › De Kroon, Wijnhavenkwartier › The Hague Centraal Station › New Babylon, Koningin Julianaplein
You can find the full schedule here. You'll be able to sign-up for the visits at the Hague Architects Market in the New Babylon building (Koningin Julianaplein 30). Opening is Saturday at 12.
