Although there were no public well wishes from Rafa Benitez’s squad upon his departure, he did reportedly privately receive messages from at least eight players, according to club sources. Marca alleges Keylor Navas, Pepe, Lucas Vázquez, Gareth Bale, and Luka Modrić were among those who sent their support to the manager. Cristiano Ronaldo, whose relationship with the manager wasn’t as poor as was widely reported, also sent his well wishes. It’s assumed that Sergio Ramos and James Rodríguez were not included in that group.

The daily also reports that club CEO José Ángel Sánchez was the one to break the news of his firing and was responsible for handling his exit package. President Florentino Pérez reportedly did not speak with Benítez at all and only briefly mentioned him at Zinedine Zidane’s presentation earlier this week.
