biochemgenius:
jemma was up nearly all night, only leaving skye’s side to run tests of her blood to try and get a better understanding of the miracle drug they used to save her life. none of it made any sense, the biochemist couldn’t figure it out. coulson wouldn’t give her any answers, which grew more frustrating as the hours passed and fitz was just as clueless as jemma was. regardless of what the GH-325 was, jemma was just relieved that they wouldn’t be losing an important member of their team. besides trying to figure out the origin of this mysterious drug, there was something else that had jemma’s brain sporadic state ; and that was all of these feelings coming to the surface. feelings she didn’t quite understand. the female scientist had come to the realization within the past forty-eight hours that perhaps her sentiment for skye ran deeper than just friendship. maybe she was overthinking things, but she couldn’t ignore the fact that her heart felt a different kind of way towards the woman who was nearly just killed. she didn’t even remember falling asleep ; she must have passed out from exhaustion having been awake for so long. shifting a bit, jemma slowly awakened to find that she fell asleep right at the side of skye’s bed, heavy head lifting gently from the edge of the mattress so that she wouldn’t wake skye. had she even been awake yet? jemma could imagine the girl was exhausted too, but she just wished she would wake up so that she knew for sure there weren’t any negative side effects to this drug coulson seemed to be so freaked out about. rubbing her tired eyes and letting a hand reach back to her own neck, massaging the kinks she developed from sleeping in such an awkward position, her eyes met the other woman who seemed to still be sleeping. her coloration, though she was still quite pale, was improving. that was good. she no longer looked as though she was already long dead and white as a ghost. checking her vitals, everything was still stable and she reached forward to gently place her hand over skye’s, softly stroking her skin with her thumb, “ i’m so glad i didn’t lose you, “ she whispered quietly, unaware that skye was listening, “ please don’t ever scare me like that again.. “
Skye felt Simmons stir, but didn’t open her eyes just yet, it eased the headache to keep her eyes closed for now, and if Simmons thought she was still sleeping, she might allow herself to get some rest as well. So really, it was a win-win, wasn’t it?
But then she felt a cold hand over own, and it sent a chill up her arm that nearly made her shiver. It was cold, but so soft, and so comforting that now Skye was afraid to move just so she didn’t startle her friend and take her hand away. She was torn between keeping completely still, and turning her palm over to thread their fingers together -- but that would have been weird, right?
Her train of thought completely derailed when she heard her friend’s voice. There was so much raw emotion there in her tone that caught her by surprise and nearly made her lose her breath. For not the first time since being a part of Coulson’s team, Skye was overwhelmed with the sense of belonging, and being wanted. It wasn’t something she was particularly used to. Sure, she had her old boyfriend, and she had some friends within the Rising Tide. But any of them wouldn’t care less if anything happened to Skye. She was barely even a blip on their radar.
But Jemma sounded genuinely scared that she might have lost her -- and she suddenly remembered how she felt when she thought the biochemist was going to die.
“Or you’ll what?” Skye teased through a cracking voice, her lips spreading into a small smile as she finally started to open her eyes to see Simmons sitting up now. “Sounded -- kind of like you were -- threatening me, Simmons.”
