It's been exactly one week since the last show of our new favorite musical was live streamed and if we're being honest, we absolutely miss it. I'm sure some of you do to, so join us as we look back at all the fabulous content leading up to the show.

Hadley reprised his role as Ben in this year's production of Timothy Knapman and Stuart Matthew Price's Before After. He is joined by none other than his equally gorgeous wife, Rosalie Craig, who plays Ami. It was a rehearsed reading of the musical that had a total of 3 shows from September 25 and 26, 2020 and was live streamed across the globe. This was shot at the Southwark Playhouse and produced by The Grey Area Theatre Company.

TRIVIA TIME!

In this episode of Sunday Show Tunes, director Matthew Rankcom briefly discussed the beginnings of the show. He mentioned here that it was actually the show's composer, Stuart Matthew Price who made the suggestion to ask Hadley and Rosie to do the musical! The folks at Grey Area then reached out to their respective agents and the rest is history! So I guess, thank you Stuart!

SHOW DAY!

WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE SHOW! It easily became one of our favorite musicals! We saw all 3 shows and it was such a delight seeing Hadley and Rosie in their respective roles. We haven't seen as much theatre as we'd like in our lifetimes, but this really reminded us to see more.

It was so much fun seeing how much people loved the show on Twitter and with the overwhelming response from the audience right after the first show, #BeforeAfterUK was actually trending in the UK!

This is a brand new song that won this year’s “A Song For Our Time” competition. Written by Amir Schoenfeld and Caitlyn Burt, it bested 260 submissions across six continents. It was selected as winner by the competition organizers, Danielle Tarento and Paul Wilkins, with Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County) as the head judge.

This song is so beautiful. Brb, while we cry our eyes out.

I'm asking anonymously, because I have embarrassingly spent too much time and brain power on pondering this question as I gaze at his images -- what is the exact color of Hadley's eyes? Gray? Hazel? Hazel gray? They sometimes seem to have a blue cast.

We often stare longingly into his eyes too! You’re TOTALLY not alone. We’ve been going back and forth about this for a while now, but your message prompted us to try and answer this definitively.

BUT...

We think it’s hazel! For lack of a better reference, Wiki defines hazel eyes as:

Hazel eyes often appear to shift in color from a brown to a green. Although hazel mostly consists of brown and green, the dominant color in the eye can either be brown/gold or green. ...This can sometimes produce a multicolored iris, i.e., an eye that is light brown/amber near the pupil and charcoal or dark green on the outer part of the iris (or vice versa) when observed in sunlight.

We compiled some pictures which focus on Hadley’s eyes (forgive the shutterstock watermark) to help us out. The color near the pupil is brown, while the color on the outer part of the iris is a pale green. In some photos, particularly in his 2015 head shot, the blue flecks are more prominent! 

Since hazel eyes are made up of a combination of various colors, they’re one of the most unique eye colors! A perfect fit for our Hadley!

WE. ARE. PANICKING!!!!!

Whatsonstage.com just announced that Southwark Playhouse will be livestreaming (!!!!) Timothy Knapman and Stuart Matthew Price’s Before After starring Hadley and Rosalie Craig!!!

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

It’ll have a limited run of 3 performances on September 25 to 26, 2020. Tickets are at £10 until September 20. It’ll bump up to £15 from September 21 onwards. You can purchase them here!

We DEFINITELY can’t wait!!!!

EDIT: We thought that this would be a full production of the show but we just found out that this would be a rehearsed reading of the musical. Hadley confirmed it in his tweet as well.

I suppose it’ll be something close to what he and Caroline did. Still, we’re really looking forward to this! Suuuuper excited! ❤️

Missing Moscow

Major throwback!

Hadley plays Alexander, Russian immigrant in the short film Missing Moscow. Just to give a bit more context, this is what the short story is about:

Idiotlamp's first short film, made in 2003, is a spoof documentary following a group of Russian immigrants living in London, as a fictional documentary crew desperately try to force their contributors to toe the line. Shot by directors Jim Field Smith and George Kay, and the re-edited and re-subtitled with a made-up narrative, the film premiered at the Raindance East Film Festival and was later broadcast by Channel 4. TRIVIA!

This short was directed by Jim Field Smith, who also happened to direct The Wrong Mans and the episode of Endeavour that Hadley appeared in. Talk about connections!

Of Thee I Sing

In this concert staging of this Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Hadley plays John P. Wintergreen, who runs for President of the United States on the "love" platform. When he falls in love with the sensible Mary Turner instead of Diana Devereaux, the beautiful pageant winner selected for him, he gets into political hot water. (x) The concert took place on July 30, 2015 at the Royal Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre.

REVIEWS

Hadley Fraser was in terrific form, easy, relaxed and suitably smarmy, as the President, John P Wintergreen. His voice was perfectly suited to the score and he effortlessly managed to both croon and soar as required. Somehow achieving a blend between David Cameron and John Kennedy, Hadley was irresistibly charming, sweetly funny, and, with blooming top notes, a joy to hear.

Some of you might know about this but if you don't, we hope that you get to laugh as much as we did when we saw this!

Candid Q&A with Hadley Fraser

Hurray for new Hadley content!!! 

Hadley looks so handsome in here! (Doesn’t he always tho? lol) We slightly miss the quarantine beard, but hey, it’s all good. There’s a lot of good bits in this Q&A. Hadley plays Dunois, the commander of the French forces, in this 2016 production of Saint Joan. It ran at the Donmar Warehouse from December 9, 2016 - February 18, 2017 and was directed by Josie Rourke.

CLIP FROM THE SHOW

This is one of our favorite moments from the show. It was a really awesome introduction for Hadley's character. We recently watched the play and found that it is definitely not for everyone. As theatre noobs (frankly we were just watching for Hadley lol), it was a bit much for us. That being said, we may be a tad bit biased but Hadley was reaaaally good in this play. We highly encourage you to see it.

Hadley plays Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the notorious mad doctor Victor Frankenstein. The role was originated by none other then Gene Wilder in the 1974 movie of the same title. The show premiered at Theatre Royal in Newcastle from August 26 to September 9, 2017. It eventually moved to the West End at the Garrick Theatre with previews starting in September 28, 2017 and opening on October 10 of the same year. It had an extended run that officially closed after 11 months in August 25, 2018.

The show received 3 nominations in the 2018 Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical. As nominees, the cast performed "Putting on the Ritz" on the awards ceremony which took place at the Royal Albert Hall in April 8, 2018.
