hunseo !
the short response was enough to earn a scrunched nose and huff from hunseo, but he didn’t push. he barely knew the boy, nonetheless felt like he had a place to push for anything beyond a right. instead he was focusing on the question that followed, his eyes widened in near-judgment, a small, confused smirk tugging onto his lips before rolling his eyes. “i can’t say i have. unless you count my snickering every time i accidentally drew the body long and the legs too high, leaving a little too much extra between. the last time i laughed at that was middle school, though, okay? don’t judge.” he pouted at the thought of it, before humming in agreement. “i’m sure there’s someone out there, but there has to be some excitement in just… getting off right before you know you’re about to die, right? a last moment of complete bliss before… well, whatever comes next. that’s a much bigger talk.”
realism. something hunnie tried to pretend didn’t exist. after losing his mother, he always wanted to keep a positive outlook on everything, and that meant believing that no matter what, he would end up happy. “why do you appreciate realism? what’s wrong with a little fantasy? i think there’s plenty of happiness to be found, even if there is an occasional bump- or a lot of bumps. that’s what i like about romances, though. i like the idea of having someone you’re willing to go through the bumps with.” he was simply a hopeless romantic, as surprising as it was due to his lack of ever really committing. it didn’t make his heart any less soft. “well, you can, too, of course. i think the middle would be the safest place to be, right? maybe one day we can meet there.” he gave a happy little nod, but it was very quickly followed by a feigned offended gasp. “hey! i am a performer. i am capable of a lot. i can even cry right now if you really want me to prove it to you. just say the word and i’ll be happy to show off.” his eyes actually lit up at the idea of being challenged, but his lack of shame definitely made the idea a little nerve wracking. “you might not need one, but happy ending you will get. no sadness allowed, only happiness and forevers. sharing wooden, floating doors all the way to freedom, it’ll be a hit.”
“i asked if you were ever turned on by one, not if you ever laughed at one. stupid middle school antics are something everyone encounters.” the only reason he thought to be reassuring was due to the pout. “i’ve got no right to judge anyone anyway,” not that he planned on going into detail about why, but it was added reassurance. “depends. what if the sex is bad? then it’d be one last let down.” as for whatever came next, he didn’t want to think about it. whenever he did, he thought of his mom, even after all this time. “if you hooked up with someone you know’s a good fuck then you’d be good. so that just means no impulsive last one night stands.”
“because i’ve lived.” it sounded pretentious when he said it like that, but there was no other way of putting it better. that was the reason behind his appreciation for realism. “there’s nothing wrong with fantasy, i just don’t buy into fantasy.” he hoped he wasn’t being too much of a downer. he wasn’t trying to be. “happiness is out there, sure,” it just wasn’t something that seemed to find haeil. his luck must’ve been the worst. “that sounds nice too,” but as someone who had never been in a relationship before he wasn’t sure that finding someone willing to go through bumps with him would be possible. he had bigger bumps than most people did. he didn’t say anything, but maybe they could meet in the middle one day. he liked the thought. “are you? i’m unfamiliar with your work.” he wasn’t trying to be rude, but he genuinely couldn’t place him with anything he’d seen. “don’t cry,” he said quickly, “people will assume i dumped you.” haeil believed he could because of how enthusiastic he was about doing it. “invite me to the premiere.”
