             ❛ wait —– this is you trying?  seriously? ❜  he would’ve dropped his arm by now if it wasn’t for his fixation on annoying the living crap out of derek on the daily. especially when derek decides to actually fight back, in his own resigned, vaguely paternal and mostly infuriating way. and if being overly affectionate is the way to worming successfully under derek’s skin, then damn  if he wouldn’t subject them both to some well-earned snuggles.  ❛ you need to work on your people skills, dude.  someone might think you tolerate  them. or worse —- they might think you like  them. ❜  oh no. egad. the horror. et cetera.  

HIS PEOPLE SKILLS are fine. but his ability to tolerate bullshit, especially of the stilinski variety, is impeccable. that he’s only roughed stiles up less than a handful of times is a testament to his self-control, not to stiles’ tolerability. he hates the player, the game, and everything else involved; and yet, he partakes. survival of the fittest. or in this case, the most obnoxious. whatever.    ❝  you’re under the impression that i like you?  ❞   he keeps it monotone and carefully blank, because there’s no better way to get some kind of reaction out of stiles.    ❝  that’s depressing.  ❞    for you.

HE LOOKS DOWN at the arm dangling over his shoulder long enough to be awkward. when he finally raises his eyes to stiles’, he draws out the silence following the smug declaration until right before it looks like stiles might start talking, again----   then strategically interjects. it comes out more despondent than it does like a first grader who was just told he’s not allowed to bring his push pop inside his mom’s brand new sixty-five thousand dollar SUV, so clearly derek is on a path of personal growth here.    ❝  not for lack of trying.  ❞
