Summerslam 2015 Review
So after letting last night's Summerslam sink in, it was an alright Summerslam which could have been amazing if it were for the 2 main events have controversial/dumb finishes.
Orton V SheamusÂ
Pretty average, impressed with Orton ability to get the crowd interested in the last half of the match. This feud has really gotten any real momentum and I hope this will be there final encounter.
Fatal 4-way for the tag team championshipsÂ
Extremely etertaining and glad New Day got the belts. Though one spot really had me confused. When Big E tries to pin his partner (since both were the legal men), would they not also lose the match. Besides that point, this was a thrilling match and wish New Day to keep the belts for a lengthy reign.
Rusev vs Ziggler
This match had no real heat. The crowd just kept chanting “We want Lana”. The finish was also ridiculous. What does the double ring out accomplish. This feud is killing both Ziggler and Rusev, and they need to move on.Â
The Arrows vs The Cosmic Rulers
Celebrities being involved in wrestling matches are never good and are usually just a mess. But wow was this a surprising match. Amell took a surprising amount of abuse in this match. But his spots were great and nothing really botched. I wonder how much more polished Amell would have been if he was given more time to plan out the match. Also glad Neville got the pin and not Amell to at least push Neville. Oh and Stardust should keep the sleeveless gear.
Intercontinental Championship match -Big Show vs Ryback vs The MizÂ
Its great to see the Intercontinental Champion to randomly losing the belt and being put over strong. But other than that positive this wasn’t really a captivating match. I hope Ryback’s next feud is more engaging and could make me believe his reign is in jeopardy.
The Wyatts vs Ambrose and ReignsÂ
A hard hitting match with an unnecessary finishing spot. I like everyone in this match, but it was obvious that Reigns is still not over and should not have been the one to get the pinfall. Ambrose tagging in Reigns just to get the pin was a bad call. Let Ambrose get the pin so the crowd cheers more than boos the finish.Â
Title for Title John Cena vs Seth RollinsÂ
What a match, both brought out the absolute best out of each other and continually trying to outdo the other. It was putting Rollins over strong until the finish. While Rollins won it was still not a clean win. This should have been a this highlight of Rollins reign. A big win over John Cena and a title unification to allow the midcard to only have one belt (makes the IC belt become more prestigious). Besides the finish involving Jon Stewart helping Rollins, I had another problem with it which I will bring up later.
Team PCB vs Team Bella vs Team B.A.D.Â
A good match, but this match seems to exist solely to get all the divas in one match. Its unfair to compare this to Bayley vs Sasha Banks, but that match was superior to this match and continues to show that if given time the divas can put on a main event worthy match. Also the fact that they are acknowleding that Nikki Bella is close to overlapping AJ Lee’s title reign record shows how vindictive WWE is that they are trying to AJ’s record for retiring.Â
Kevin Owens vs Cesaro
A competitive match that saw the right person get the win. After Owens losing the previous night to Finn Balor, Owens needed this win more than Cesaro. Cesaro is very over and this lose won’t hurt him. I hope this feud continues and their matches get better and better.
The Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar
The build up for this match was fantastic. Highly anticipated with a high concern of a repeat of their Wrestlemania match. Instead we get a brutal match that far exceed expectation and blew away their mania match. It was going fantastic until the bell rang while Taker was in the Kimura lock. Brock breaks the hold and believes he is the winner. Taker then low blows Lesnar, applies the Hell’s Gate, and Lesnar passes out refusing to tap out. This seems to be the reverse of the wrestlemania match, the match was fantastic while the finish was disappointing. Also the bell keeper believes he had the right to end the match because he saw Taker tap out, that is the referee’s job. Why didn’t the bell keeper ring the bell when Cena was pinning Rollins while the ref was out cold. This finish made no sense and Lesnar should have went over again.
Overall - a good PPV but could have been great with clean finishes in both main events. Unfortunately for Summerslam, NXT Takeover was on the previous night that deliver incredible matches with clean finishes.Â
