NFL Training Camp is just a few weeks away and the New England Patriots may still have moves left to make in free agency. Free agents brought in right before or during training camp have often made a significant impact and there may be another free agent still unsigned who can help New England return to the Super Bowl in 2016. Part one focuses on free agents on offense.
(via New England Patriots: Any Free Agents on Offense?)
Martellus Bennett is not a tight end who will replicate Aaron Hernandez’s role in the offense. What makes Bennett a difficult match-up teamed with Gronkowski is his blocking ability. Bennett is six-foot-six and 273 pounds and–like Gronkowski–has deceptive quickness and power. Everything that should have happened with Scott Chandler is finally going to happen this year with Martellus Bennett at tight end.

With less than two months until training camp kicks off at the end of July, it is the perfect time to step back and look at the looming battles to end up on the 53-man roster. Part two of the series is a look at the safety position. With All Pro free safety Devin McCourty and the underrated Patrick Chung at strong safety, New England has two excellent pieces. However, do they have enough depth behind their starters? Who will emerge in training camp? Is there a sleeper at safety who could sneak into the rotation?
The New England Patriots went into the 2015 season with huge questions in the secondary: the top four cornerbacks (former starters Darrelle Revis, Brandon Browner, Kyle Arrington and Alfonzo Dennard) on the Super Bowl winning defense were released or had their contract option denied. Instead of the defense being doomed as predicted by many analysts, the Patriots secondary was ably manned by second year undrafted free agent Malcolm Butler and third year Rutgers product Logan Ryan. Do the Patriots have enough quality players and depth at cornerback to get back to the Super Bowl in 2016?
While grading a draft immediately after the draft and before any player steps foot on the practice field, plays in a preseason game, or plays a regular season game is folly, it still makes an interesting exercise. As such, each pick by the New England Patriots in the 2016 NFL Draft will be assigned a grade along with a final draft grade. As always, the grade will be weighed heavily not on what the seemingly multiplying number of draft gurus but on figuring out what director of player personnel Nick Caserio and head coach Bill Belichick saw of the player and their fit in New England.

The release of defensive tackle Dominique Easley highlights how the New England Patriots have a number of players whose roster spot is vulnerable. Whether it be due to their contract, their competition, or their play last season, the Patriots should have a spirited battle as the offseason programs approach. This series will look at five players who are on the roster bubble heading into the 2016 preseason. Kicking off the series will be a look at wide receiver Danny Amendola and why he is on the bubble heading towards training camp.

As the New England Patriots’ front office prepares their final preparations for the 2016 NFL Draft, it makes sense to take one last look back at the prior years’ selections. This piece will examine each of the 2015 NFL Draft picks made by the Patriots looking not just at the player and spot drafted, but the role they played in 215, their anticipated role in 2016 and beyond, and giving the pick a grade with a year of perspective.

The New England Patriots have been active in the trade market and in free agency this offseason. The Patriots may have taken a step backwards defensively by trading away Pro Bowl defensive end Chandler Jones to Arizona, but a flurry of moves has restocked the cupboard on defense. However, they may not be done yet. Even though it is five weeks until the NFL Draft, there are still some defensive free agents who may be able to help the Patriots in 2016.

The New England Patriots have been busy in free agency in the past few weeks but the Patriots may not yet be done shopping. Let’s take a look at the offense and see what other moves could still be made leading up to the NFL Draft in May.

With the addition of wide receiver Chris Hogan, trading defensive end Chandler Jones to Arizona for guard Jonathan Cooper (and a 2016 second round draft pick), trading for tight end Martellus Bennett, signing running back Donald Brown, signing defensive end Chris Long, and finally adding linebacker Shea McClellin via free agency the Patriots have made some significant moves for 2016. But were these the right moves? Click through to review the free agent moves made in the context of roster-building on each side of the ball.
The New England Patriots finished the 2015 season with a seventh consecutive AFC East title thanks in part to a 10-0 start to the season. Unlike most Bill Belichick teams, this Patriots’ team struggled down the stretch and limped into the playoffs after peaking far too early in the season. What was a disappointing season for the Patriots was a season 28 other teams would gladly take: another trip to the AFC Championship game which fell just short of another Super Bowl appearance. A look inside the numbers often makes a good starting point for seeing what went right and what went wrong over the 2015 season. With that, here are some interesting numbers to look into about the 2015 New England Patriots.
