SOUTH PARK FANDOM ENTITLEMENT: or, how discourse (and entitlement) ruins things for everybody.
I’ve been wanting to write something like this for a while, and here it is; 4k words on the causes, effects, and dangers of discourse (headcanon discourse, in particular) within fandom. Discourse (and entitlement) is the primary killer of creativity and connection within fandom, and in order to stop provoking it, there needs to be a collective consciousness about what we, as a whole, actually want out of a fandom space. So, without further adieu, here’s my manifesto on fandom (but more specifically, South Park) entitlement, complete with five sections and eight subsections. Let’s get into it!
Am I dreaming? Did someone from Tumblr write this? This is the most articulate article I’ve ever seen about this fandom. I really liked the segment where it points out fans’ entitlement problem here. If I may add, there are lot of others on here who think that “fiction is activism”.
I know I stepped on my own heart removing my fic from ao3 and I’ve stepped on others’ hearts as well by abandoning them because I was too overwhelmed and flustered from being hurt by backhanded compliments, and having 3 months of my work being duplicated within 12 hours by people who hate me.
If you’re a serious fanfiction writer like myself, you would know the countless number of tabs you have to open to get a good chapter out. It’s not like I wanted everybody to like my fic, anyway. I won’t ignore that the controversy with my fanfiction was: everyone was outrageously attractive, had shit personalities, address the same mental illnesses I have, (gasp) god forbid, the same humor of the show… while adhering to conventional beauty standards. So, no shit. Not everyone was going to like that shit. Not everyone was going to like those pieces of shits and I was okay with it. It’s weird that how behind a computer screen you can decide what an author or an artist is attracted to irl just from the fiction they make. *sarcasm*
Since South Park fandom, I’ve never felt free to do anything with my imagination. There were a few good people who encouraged me, but sadly my mental health got the best of me and I severed all relationships because I didn’t want to drag them in the mud with me. On the contrary, I’m numb and should be feeling quite the complete opposite. Passionate to create more WIPs. After all, that was what I felt in the beginning. But man, I hate this. I’m still broken.
The show South Park itself is proship/profiction. And it’s just sucky to see more kids and evangelical adults ruin it. I like my share of fluff once I’m a while, but I could certainly say I got burned in the process. I still enjoy the cartoon made from the ciscet white straight men very much, it’s just mad hypocritical that these kids and weird adults worship M&T: but “poc gay fic writer that writes problematic stuff. oh no.”. As we can see, I’m still very tired. It’s taxing as hell just typing this. But thank you.
Edit: But also, I don’t think brushing everything under the rug will fix everything. That’s the only tiny thing I don’t really agree with. Ignoring discourse isn’t going to make discourse go away. People should have freedom to explore fiction any kind of way without anybody shouting to en masse that ________ is the only right kind of fiction.
staig petplay - stan's the subby pet and craig's his dom owner. stan is extremely adoring (think when a dog puts its head on ur knee and stares longingly up at you) and craig's a very good owner. bonus points for stan being kept on a leash and toothrotting levels of fluff and tenderness
.
My loves. Staig’s whole dynamic is petplay.
Tooth rotting fluff? Darling, aftercare is Craig’s bread and butter.
I’ve written a fic with several sex scenes with Craig dominating Stan. Writers don’t get much credit for this ship unless it’s SFW or “healthy”?? So I’ll be surprised if somebody else renews the ao3 tag with this.
Edit: And yes. They did fuck a lot there. That wip. u_u
What’s this? Seeing all the handsome manga guys makes me motivated to improve. 😭😭I guess I’m drawing more than writing this year.

*puffs out chest* “I BEG TO DIFFER!”
I’m not really opposed to the idea of uploading half of my longfic at once. But those tragic first 5 chapters are being revamped. Big time. Keep a watch, lurkers. ❤️💙
It’s really not okay.
Actually, let me delete that garble megapost tomorrow. I’m still jaded how Staig Week came to be, but at least we had/are having one(s). The ship needs to expand regardless of the different versions of them we have in our heads. It’s just good to have Staig in general.
Searching for Staig content in the 2010s:
Did you mean Diet Creek / Diet Style?
I don’t think I had any intention on writing Tricia Tucker. Her character development in that last fic. At least, at the the time... That was purely coincidental. (But, I’m pretty proud of that. So, I guess, hooray.)
Screenshotting everything I own because I still think it’s not safe here. 📚♥️🌹💔🍷👹🍓🍎
This also. I know we complain about there not being enough episodes with the kids doing adventures and stuff, but I actually like the Randy episodes.
Yeah, everything would just be kind of boring without those guys.
Nvm it’s not just us, it’s the entire site. I checked some of the popular tags.
I wrote 50 pages with 3 separate plots. Pain.
