He really was very happy in his friends company and the about of smiling and grinning he’d done so far that night was enough to show for it. “Deal,” he said and held up his glass once again to ‘cheers’ with hers before gulping the rest o it down and smiling again. “It really has. I know, I know, I’ve said it already but thanks again, Hales.”

She was thankful they were able to get together and do something like this. It was a very enjoyable evening and hopefully it would happen more often. “Good. I’m holding you to it,” she replied and raised her glass to mirror his actions. “You’re welcome and thank you too, Alfie.”

Nathan smiled, he was lucky to have such a supportive wife like Haley and was grateful for her support with his career. “Thank you, that means so much to me” Nathan replied to his wife.

Haley smiled back at him. One of her favorite things about their relationship was how they were so supportive of each other. “You’re welcome. I’m your wife and I’m going to support your dreams always. As a thank you, you can promise to make sure to stay close by. I’ve missed watching you play,”

Alfie grinned, “Okay good,” he replied and continue to eat the food on his plate, still really enjoying it, whilst wanting to eat quickly to grab some more. “It’s been really nice to catch up, Haley.”

Haley smile back at him. She took a sip of her drink before continuing to eat herself. Alfie seemed to be enjoying the food which made her happy. “It really has been. It’s been too long. Let’s not go that long again, okay?”

“The key word there is ‘if’,” Alfie pointed out with a laugh. He began eating the food, it was really good; “Haley, you don’t need to be, this food is amazing, I only hope I’m not eating gross in front of you now because that’d make me nervous.”

“True,” she replied with a laugh of her own. Haley smiled at him before continuing eating. “I’m glad you liked it. Oh no need to worry. You’re not grossing me out at all. Just continue to enjoy your food. Please.”

Alfie sat contently, listening and smiling as he heard his friend talk about her family. Her motherly love was clearly evident in her voice and he could tell that both her boys meant the world to her. She’d been through a lot with them, he knew but she’d certainly done a good job. “It’ll be nice to be altogether again I bet,” he chirped in after a while. “Tell them I say hello won’t you?”

He started to pick out some food that was laid on the table and pile his plate up. He sheepishly grinned at Haley, “I like to eat,” he told her, chuckling, “and especially if it’s handmade. I must try some of Haley James Scott’s food and see if it’s as good as everything else she does,” he smiled and began tucking in almost as if he’d been saving himself up for this moment.

Haley knew she was probably rambling about her family, but she couldn’t help herself. At least with Alfie, she did have to feel like she was being silly or anything. He would never laugh or make her feel embarrassed. He really was a great friend and she was thankful to have him in her life. “Oh definitely. It has been too long. It will be nice to just spend time together as a family,” she replied with a smile before nodding at his next statement. “I will do that.”

She let him get his food before she followed suit and filled her own plate. “No need for explanations. I made plenty so please eat up. You can even take some leftovers if we have any,” she told him. “Oh gosh. Now I’m nervous. I really hope the food lives up to your explanations,” she said nervously and watched him dig in before taking a bite of her own.

Nathan smiled happily over at his wife. He was glad that he was back, and that she was with him again. “It was great. I realised how much I missed the game and how much I really love playing the game” Nathan answered truthfully.

Haley smiled back at Nathan. She was doing her best to remember everything about this moment. “Good. I’m glad you had fun. You really are talented player, Nathan. You have a gift and you shouldn’t give it up,” she replied.

“I understand but it’s always something to just keep in the back of your mind. How are the family by the way? Nathan was away doing some basketball thing, right? Or at least that’s what I heard, you know how news travels around here, Haley. Honestly, it’s not problem, I’m just glad I can help every now and then,” he sincerely reassured her and smiled.

“This food looks really good, tuck in!”

“I know and I promise I will. The family is doing great. Jamie is constantly growing and he’s really happy Nathan is home as am I. Yeah he was. He was at a camp. It lasted far too long in my opinion, but I’m just happy to have him home. The way news and gossip spreads through this town is crazy. It still means a lot, Alfie,” she replied with a bright smile.

“I hope so. I made it myself.”

Nathan listened carefully to what Haley was saying to him. He took a bite of his food before racking his brain of stories about camp. “Well, actually my favorite story about camp is when I got on the coach, knowing I was coming back home to you and Jamie”

Haley watched Nathan and waited for his surprise. She took a sip of her wine and couldn’t help, but smile at him. “You’re sweet. I’m very glad you’re home. That’s not about camp. How was it playing and improving your game?”

Nathan grinned over at his wife, as he began eating his dinner. He heard Haley speak to him and waited until he had finished his mouthful before he answered. “What would you like to know about Camp?”

Haley smiled back before following his lead and began eating. It was really good and he of course picked her favorite. “Anything you want to tell me. I mean I know you called and stuff, but how was it really. You were gone for a long time. I’m sure you have all kinds of stories.”

“Yes, I am. No, they are horrible. I feel bad because it’s impossible to play with Bella in this big cast but once it’s off I’ll be able to chase her around in the backyard again. How’s that little man of yours?

“I know they are. I’m sorry, Lexie. I can imagine, but I’m sure Bella understands. She’s probably just glad her mom is okay. I’m sure you both will be looking forward to that. Just remember to take care of yourself. Jamie is doing great and constantly growing. Since his daddy’s been home, he’s not wanted much to do with me, but I can’t blame him. How’s Bella?”

Nathan grinned as he gently tapped his glass against his wife’s glass. “Always and forever” Nathan replied, repeating the same thing Haley had, which was their little catchphrase, that they always said to each other.

Haley smile back at him as their glasses touched. She would never get tired of him saying those words. It had become their thing over the years, but ever time she knew he meant it as much as she did. “So tell me about camp.”

He smiled at Haley opposite it and raised his glass. “To us? And to our family?” Nathan asked, as he looked at her.

Today was truly a great day and she expected that it would only get better. Nathan coming home was the best surprise. Haley definitely wouldn’t take for granted having him home and getting back to the way things were before he had left. When she saw everything was ready, she sat down and smile at him. As he raised his glass, she mirrored his action. “Yes. Always and forever.”

“I’m recovering well. Thanks for asking.” Lexie smiled slightly and took a sip of her drink. “My cast should come off in a few weeks and that’s the end of my injuries.”

“That’s good to hear,” Haley responded with a smile and looked up at her friend. “I know you’re happy about that. Cast aren’t fun to have.”

Nathan smiled as he felt Haley kissed him, he had missed her so much and didn’t realise until he was back with her now. Nathan put the plates on the table, pulling out a chair for Haley. This was something that Nathan always did, because he thought it was what a gentlemen and husband should do for their wife. “I won’t, promise. I’m not leaving you alone for that long again” Nathan added as he looked into Haley’s beautiful eyes.

It was great to have him home. She would definitely be taking advantage of getting to kiss him whenever she wanted. Haley smiled as Nathan got out the plates and pulled out her chair. They were simple gestures, but they were very sweet. It was those little things that made her love and appreciate him even more. He still continued to prove that he was the best man in her life. “Good. I’m holding you to that,” she replied and leaned in to give him another kiss.

Nathan spoken to his mom for about ten minutes when he dropped Jamie off around hers. It was good for him to catch up with her, they hadn’t spoken or seen each other in a while. Before heading to the Chinese, Nathan popped to the local supermarket and picked up Haley her favourite bottle of wine. He drove back with the food and drinks and parked in the driveway. Nathan kissed Haley back before he passed her a glass of wine. He unpacked the food and served it into two separate plates for them both.

The thing Haley was most excited about beside Nathan being home was finally getting to spend some alone time with him. She could be patient until he got home because she knew it was important for him to catch up with his mom. All that mattered that he would be spending the night at home with her. Haley kissed him again before leaning back and taking the glass. He always knew just what to do to make her heart skip a beat. The food smelled delicious. “I’’m so glad you are finally home. Please don’t leave for that long again.”
