I won’t let you fail. C’mon, cartwheels are easy. They’re the basis for other tumbling passes.

I’ll remember this if I ever get into a fight, which I don’t think I ever will. But I Have the knowledge now.

It would never be too hot or too cold. The temperature is just right all the time.

Wow, you’re really grumpy... Are you just you need just one cup? How about two? Or how about you just cut that caffeine addiction and stop relying on it to get you through the day like a normal human?

madision raised an eyebrow then laughed. “cute but i’ve only got five bucks. so take it or leave it. but i may magically have another five if you don’t tell miss voss. don’t want her knowing i can’t do the basics, i’ll be laughed at.”

“Fine, fine,” Hallan grinned. “But you’re secret is safe with me. But I can still teach you how to do a cartwheel if you want me to.”

“See that you aren’t in class? Kind of waiting for a detention to happen, aren’t you?”

She wanted to reply with something sassy, but she hesitated, “Sorry.”

Marcel entered the cafeteria with a paper sack and book in hand, scanning the room. Even in an academy for bionic humans the food provided was still shit, so Marcel brought his own. The incessant chatter both in the room and in his head was already proving quite difficult. It’s kind of like when you’re trying to count something and someone is just yelling out random numbers to distract you. You don’t want to listen, but it just kinda happens. It’s easier (less painful) for Marcel to just pick a voice and focus on it, even if it’s not his own.

Today, that voice came from a meek-looking girl sitting at an otherwise empty table. Perfect. As he began to approach the table, he wondered how close he should sit. Should he ask to sit or just do it? God, Marcel. This is what happens when you don’t interact with anyone for four years–you forget basic human etiquette! Marcel shook his head and realized he was standing in front of the table already. He nervously cleared his throat and sat down across from the girl–but not directly across, because that would be weird, right?

Marcel decided to just crack open his book and start eating. If the girl wanted to talk, (which he was quite certain she would, after hearing snippets of her homesickness) she could approach him. 

Hallan was nervous when she saw someone approaching the table. He seemed to be a mentor, and he sat down at the table without a word. She looked up from her mediocre bowl of soup and wondered if she should say anything. Did he know her? What did he teach? Would he say something first? Why did he choose to sit there? Was it the only empty seat? He opened up a book, so Hallan decided that it was best to not disturb him. She liked to read as well, and she knew how she was when she was interrupted in the middle of a good book. Hallan picked up her bottle of water and took a quick sip before returning to her soup and crackers. Only after two spoons of soup did Hallan look back up. “Are... Are you meeting someone here? Would you like me to find someplace else to sit?”

“Men don’t like it when you hit below the belt, if you get my drift.” 

Oh, my god. I’m so dumb....  I didn’t even think about that.

Xin laughs, “Nah, it’s fine. You have a great kick, though, good for actual fights. Just remember, if you’re fighting a guy, aim lower.” She jokes. 

How come?

To be fair, a couple of us have been on their tables.

I guess that’s fair.

I really try not to know what the labs are up to these days.

That’s terrifying, honestly.

“Huh? What? See what?”

Oh, nothing. Nevermind. It was probably nothing.

“The flying pig? So I’m not the only one?”

Is that what that was? A flying pig?

“I think I need to put a sign on my classroom door, stating ‘Try not to kick your teacher in the face, please and thanks.’…” Xin trails off, looking at the person beside her.

“Sorry,” Hallan apologized. “I have a pretty stellar fan kick because of dance. Sometimes I think my legs are shorter than what they are. I’m about 70% leg, to be completely honest. A-Are you okay?”
