your art's super pretty!! how do you pick out color palettes?? /genq
(I'm real sorry for how late this response is, I didn't know how to respond)
My favorite colors are dandelion yellow and navy blue, so most of the colors I use for art are those or mixtures of them!
But in general, when I'm picking out colors, I'm thinkin' about what just makes sense + character colors + tone/mood,
What makes sense: common color of something (or what makes sense for it to be).
Character colors: self explanatory, but important to acknowledge when your characters have similar colors to elements in your drawing, either change character colors or other element colors to compliment or contrast w/ each other.
Tone/Mood: what color is associated with the atmosphere/environment (like warm is yellow/orange and cold is blue/purple, or something like happy is yellow, sad is blue, angry is red(really helps when trying to capture character emotion)).
for what made sense, the sky and water are usually blue, trees are mostly green, and rocks are grey
for Steelhead, I had to make sure County wouldn't blend in with the already blueish sky and water, so the bg colors changed to be more yellowish with the tone/mood and to contrast w/ him (the colors were also darkened to make it seem like it was late noon),
County also changed slightly to fit the tone but still stayed the most blue thing in the bottom half.
so then my main colors ended up being these dudes,
because I focused mainly on yellow + blue most of these are complementary, which helps make everything come together nicely + every other color painted could just be made by mixing these together!
(I don't know how to end this, uh, I'll add to this again probably)
