Things We Learned about The Batman:
It’s likely set sometime in the 90’s but after the year 1991 based on the trailer song. Update: it appears to be set in modern day but I’m pretty sure Bruce was a 90’s kid
It is NOT an origin story
It’s sort of an origin story for the Rouges Gallery
Selena Kyle is not Catwomen yet but it sounds like she evolves into Catwomen over the course of the movie
It features a lot of Bruce’s psychology espeically in terms of his “shadow side” and the divide between Bruce Wayne and Batman
It heavily focuses on his status as the World’s Greatest Detective
It takes place in his 2nd year as Batman
The public fears Batman and some people are not sure he exists
Bruce isn’t perfect and he makes mistakes which will he shown through his actions, their outcomes, and by marks and scuffs on the Batsuit
Bruce built both the Batmobile and the Batsuit himself
Batman isn’t making the impact on Gotham Bruce wants so he learns how to change things the way he wants them to be
The Penguin doesn’t like to be called the Penguin, at least in the beginning
The Riddler has just become the Riddler and its supposed to be different from anything we’ve seen yet
Matt Reeves drew inspiration from films such as Chinatown and Taxi Driver along with other 70’s street-based films
It heavily focuses on the corruption of the GCPD and the cops
Bruce wears the black eye makeup underneath the cowl
Things really start to pick up when Batman investigates a series of murders and that is part of what makes him realize how to change Gotham
Gotham is supposed to be unlike any city we’re ever seen. Scenes with Gotham were filmed in Liverpool for the Gothic architecture but modern buildings will be added in using CGI
Batman aids the police and works with Gordon
Matt described Bruce as “broken”
The way the trailer is cut (and based on the filming locations) it looks like the entrance to the Batcave might be through the cemetery
